Position located in Dubuque, IA

Grand River Medical Group is seeking an experienced Medical Coder to join our Revenue Cycle Team. You will provide a key role in reviewing and analyzing medical billing and coding for the processing of both Urgent Care/Acute and Multi-Specialty Clinic claims. You will be responsible for ensuring proper coding which includes; verifying all codes are current and active and reporting any missing or incomplete documentation, meeting production benchmarks, assisting with insurance and coding questions and resolution, as well as communicating effectively and directly with clinical staff.

The ideal candidate would understand medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, possess strong computer skills, be detail oriented, able to multi-task, work independently or part of a team and be able to communicate effectively.

This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week. This position has a flexible schedule, with the ability to work a hybrid model after introductory period of some work from home and some in office days, with no evening or weekend requirements. Coding certification preferred but not required.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Review and analyze medical billing and coding for hospital and clinic claims.
  • Review and accurately verify coding for services and reimbursement in compliance with CPT and ICD guidelines as well as using appropriate modifiers and HCPC codes.
  • Ensure that all codes are current and active.
  • Report missing or incomplete documentation.
  • Meet production benchmarks.
  • Assist with insurance and coding questions, conduct research as needed.
  • Communicate effectively and directly with clinical staff.

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) (or willingness to obtain within six months of employment) preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology preferred.
  • Ability to use computer, office equipment, including keyboard skills.
  • Ability to work under multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently or part of a team.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills verbal and written.
