Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Merchandising Analyst to join our team. This role is instrumental in driving data-driven decision-making across our retail operations. The analyst will focus on providing actionable insights on inventory productivity, promotional effectiveness, eCommerce performance, and overall sales and profitability to optimize business outcomes and support strategic goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in financial analysis, preferably in a retail or eCommerce environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel or Power BI.
  • Experience working with retail data systems (e.g., ERP, inventory management, or sales tracking software).
  • Solid understanding of financial metrics and KPIs relevant to retail and eCommerce.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to present insights effectively to stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of SQL or other data query languages.
  • Familiarity with eCommerce platforms and digital analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics).
  • Experience in forecasting and budgeting processes in a retail environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sales & Profitability Analysis
  • Conduct financial analysis to identify key drivers of sales performance and profitability across retail channels.
  • Evaluate revenue trends, margin performance, and cost structures to provide strategic recommendations for improving profitability.
  • Develop forecasting models and scenario analyses to support business planning and decision-making.
  • Partner with leadership to set sales targets and track performance against key financial goals.
  • Inventory Productivity Analysis
  • Analyze inventory performance metrics, including turnover, sell-through rates, and stock-to-sales ratios, to optimize inventory levels and reduce carrying costs.
  • Develop and maintain reports on product performance to identify trends, slow-moving inventory, and opportunities for replenishment or markdowns.
  • Collaborate with merchandising and supply chain teams to forecast demand and recommend inventory strategies that align with sales goals.
  • Promotional Effectiveness
  • Evaluate the financial impact of promotions, discounts, and sales campaigns, including ROI and profitability analysis.
  • Partner with marketing and sales teams to develop pre- and post-promotion analyses, identifying key drivers of success or areas for improvement.
  • Provide recommendations for future promotional strategies based on customer behavior and market trends.
  • eCommerce Insights and Analysis
  • Monitor eCommerce performance metrics, such as conversion rates, average order value, and traffic trends, to assess the effectiveness of online initiatives.
  • Analyze online sales data to uncover growth opportunities, optimize digital merchandising, and improve customer experience.
  • Work closely with the eCommerce team to evaluate the success of campaigns and suggest actionable improvements.
  • Reporting and Dashboards
  • Design, develop, and maintain dashboards and reports to provide stakeholders with a comprehensive view of retail performance.
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of data used for decision-making across teams.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with finance, operations, marketing, and merchandising teams to align financial insights with broader business objectives.
  • Contribute to strategic planning by providing data-driven recommendations and forecasts.

Physical Demands

Frequent physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, dexterity, and light grasping. Occasional physical demands include lifting up to 25 lbs., bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, squatting, climbing stairs, and firm grasping. The associate is required to accept incoming calls and must be able to hear and speak. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision adequate for performing the responsibilities and functions of the job efficiently. The associate must have the manual dexterity to operate and use a computer and other basic office equipment.

Work Environment and Working Conditions

This position is performed inside a climate-controlled office facility. The noise level is low to medium and typical of an office environment. Potential hazards include electrical hazards. Atmospheric conditions are typical of an office environment and may include exposure to odors and dust.
