Job Overview
The National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium is an outgrowth of the Dubuque County Historical Society, which also operates the Mathias Ham Historic Site, is home to the National Rivers Hall of Fame, and supports a national outreach program called RiverWorks Discovery.
The Museum Café Assistant Manager is part of a team responsible for the daily management of café staff and coordination of resources for the café. Duties include but are not limited to: café operations, staff scheduling and supervision, daily cash handling/counting, creating, and updating menus, taking inventory, and general organization of the restaurant. Ideal candidates should demonstrate the ability to interact with the public and co-workers in a friendly, enthusiastic, and outgoing manner and help to provide leadership to a team of associates to enhance the guest experience. Primary duties
- Assist the Café Manager with daily operational and management tasks, including supervision of and scheduling of staff, training, food ordering, and inventory.
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy environment by establishing, following, and enforcing sanitation standards and procedures.
- Take food orders using an electronic point-of-sale system and be comfortable with cash handling.
- Ensure the cleanliness of the dining area and kitchen and follow all food preparation safety laws and rules.
- Interact with guests in a positive, friendly manner.
- Current ServSafe Food Handler Certification preferred but not required (will certify qualified applicant).
- Other duties as assigned including, but not limited to, intra-office catering and small-scale banquet needs.
Qualifications
- Qualified candidates are preferred to have experience in food service and/or cash handling but not required.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
- Exceptional written & verbal communication skills.
- Outstanding external and internal customer service skills.
- Effective personnel management and problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to perform any physical demands of job duties, either with or without reasonable accommodation. These demands may include periods of standing, reaching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, carrying, lifting, or moving objects 25 lbs. or less.
