Job purpose
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on a wide range of food processing and packaging equipment, and essential facility systems, including boilers/steam generators and air compressors, to minimize downtime and maintain a safe and compliant production environment.
Duties and responsibilities
- Maintain a positive attitude at all times.
- Perform both routine and emergency repairs and execute scheduled preventive/predictive maintenance on food processing, packaging, and facility equipment, utilizing a Maintenance Management System (MMS).
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to minimize production downtime.
- Adhere to all food safety regulations and GMPs during maintenance activities to prevent contamination.
- Maintain and repair critical facility systems, including boilers/steam generators and compressed air.
- Document all maintenance and repair activities accurately and promptly.
- Identify and report potential equipment issues, safety hazards, and improvement opportunities.
- Effectively communicate equipment status to both the production team and the facilities manager.
- Ensure work areas are clean, organized, and safe after completing maintenance tasks.
- Assist with equipment installations, changeovers, and maintaining spare parts inventory.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on maintenance experience.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles across electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proven competence in problem-solving, team building, planning, goal-setting, decision-making, and positive accountability.
Bonus Qualifications:
- Vocational school degree or BS/BA
- Knowledge of boiler systems and water treatment methodologies.
- Experience within the food industry, including familiarity with food safety protocols.
Working conditions
- Shift based working hours.
- Primarily an indoor work environment with occasional outdoor duties.
- Exposure to hot parts on equipment
- May involve exposure to cleaning chemicals and allergens.
- May be exposed to loud sounds and distracting noise levels, such as production equipment.
Physical requirements
- Able to stand and walk throughout the scheduled work shift.
- Occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell.
- Able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Able to hear and understand conversations, alarms, and equipment malfunctions.
