Description
- The Legal Secretary assists attorneys in managing administrative and clerical tasks to ensure the efficient operation of the legal department. They are responsible for performing a variety of duties, including preparing legal documents, scheduling appointments and meetings, maintaining case files, and communicating with clients and other parties involved in legal matters.

Job Duties
- The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Subpoenas:
Create the subpoena, make copies and get it ready for the officers to serve, get a court reporter if necessary.
Warrants:
Processes the warrant paperwork so the defendants can be picked up and charged.
Notifications:
Processes multiple notifications daily that come through from the Clerk of Court and transfers into JD and creates an event.
New Case Paperwork:
Processes the paperwork for those that are not seen in morning court. Puts them into the system and files an appearance for our attorney so they get all notifications and are up to speed on the case.
Answer Phone Calls:
Answers phone calls, assists them, or directs them to where they need to go.
Assist at the Window:
Greet any victim, defense attorney or walk in and assist with their needs. Prints paperwork or gives them the resources they need for their trip here or directs them to another dept.
Misdemeanor Court:
Enters cases, files paperwork, goes to court w/attorney, reenters new dates, closes cases, enters info into the computer in Excel to keep track if it was closed, continued or a plea deal, keeps binders for upcoming dates.

Minimum Qualifications
- Education and/or Experience Requirements:
- Associate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
- None.

Supplemental Information
- In order to perform the functions and responsibilities of the position (listed above) the following knowledge, skills, and abilities are essential.
- General knowledge of criminal justice system.
- Ability to communicate ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Court officials, State and local law enforcement officials, members of the bar, the judiciary, employees, and the public.
- Ability to prepare concise written reports.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Power Point.

Physical Requirements
- Most activities involve sedentary work at a desk or computer workstation with repetitive hand movement.
- Frequent sitting and standing.
- Occasional lifting to 25 pounds.
Work Environment
- Primarily work is indoors.
- Frequently works with irritated/agitated individuals.
- Frequently works with hostile of violent individuals.
