Job Overview

Serve the Peosta Community as the Dubuque County Library-Peosta Branch Librarian.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors Degree with library experience preferred, or an Associate Degree or equivalent with at least three years of library experience.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
ESSENTIAL TASKS:
Oversee Dubuque County Library District-Peosta Branch collection.
Make acquisition recommendations for the collection housed at the Peosta Campus Library to meet the needs of the Peosta and surrounding Dubuque County patrons.
Refresh materials for circulation for the Peosta branch collection monthly from the Dubuque County Library collection, shelve new materials and inform library staff of the exchange of titles.
Process periodicals and newspapers purchased by the Dubuque County Library and inventory at the end of the year.
Assist with duties at circulation desk, including greeting patrons and answering telephone or email requests. Check in and out materials and multimedia equipment for all collections.
Sort returned books, periodicals, publications, and other items according to the classification code and return them to shelves, files, or other designated storage areas.
Assist all library patrons in locating materials in the library and in locating information from various sources.
Assist library patrons on the use of the library computers, databases, and photocopier.
Oversee the Dubuque County Library community bulletin board.
Attend Dubuque County Library and NICC Peosta Campus Library staff meetings.
Assist with inventory and weeding of all library collections.
Participate in professional development to advance skills, knowledge and abilities as they relate to the position.
Ability to organize tasks, work independently and establish priorities. Detailed and professional in written and oral communications. Ability to related to internal and external constituents in a service-orientated and professional manner. Competent in record keeping and computer skills. Willingness and ability to interact with community and college patrons. Demonstrated respect for and sensitivity to a diverse population required. Ability to be flexible. This position typically includes regularly-scheduled evening and weekend (Saturdays) hours.Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
