Position Summary:
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville School of Agriculture is seeking an Assistant Enterprise Manager for the Pioneer Farm. The Assistant Enterprise Manager will work with staff, faculty, and students to meet the educational, research and outreach goals of Pioneer Farm. Primary responsibilities will include feed and nutrient management for all livestock enterprises. This will include coordinating and training of students and staff with associated application, distribution, and equipment maintenance and repair related to feed and nutrients of all livestock enterprises. Working knowledge of milking and feeding equipment will be required to provide support and relief to enterprise managers.
This is a full-time, benefit and paid leave eligible position.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Direct and perform the day-to-day activities of an animal care facility, ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements in alignment with unit objectives and strategic initiatives. This includes work with the dairy, swine, beef, bull test, crop enterprises, and management and oversight of the manure separator and composting at Pioneer Farm as needed.
- Provide leadership and supervisory oversight of student employees, including responsibility for hiring, training, assigning work, managing performance and conduct, and approving hours worked.
- Work with Pioneer Farm staff and student labor to ensure production activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in a timely manner.
- Assist faculty, staff, and university partners in coordinating academic, research, and outreach activities planned and hosted at Pioneer Farm.
- Serve as a subject matter resource to unit leadership and campus partners on farm operations, animal care, and facility management.
- Attend weekly meetings and maintain ongoing communication with Pioneer Farm staff regarding current and planned activities.
- Assist in maintaining financial, production, and agronomic records as needed.
- Monitor the unit/program budget, approve expenditures, and ensure funds are managed appropriately.
- Oversee and document animal care procedures, assessments, and medication administration in accordance with research protocols, compliance standards, and industry best practices.
- Identify, develop, and facilitate staff and student training opportunities to support safe, compliant, and effective operations.
- Evaluate and ensure feed quality, while assisting with agronomic decision-making and crop production at Pioneer Farm.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in an agricultural related field.
- Minimum of three years' experience in agriculture, preferably with direct involvement with livestock and farm machinery/equipment.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
- Experience supervising employees, specifically student labor.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a variety of people.
- Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to maintain accurate and well-organized records.
