Automotive Buyer

Job Overview

Specialized Recruiting Group is partnering with a well-established organization to find an Automotive Buyer. This role is ideal for a strategic buyer with strong analytical skills and an automotive background who enjoys owning a product category from strategy through execution.

This position oversees purchasing, assortment planning, pricing strategy, and supplier relationships for an automotive-focused category. While prior automotive buying experience is helpful, candidates with buying experience in other industries and a solid automotive background are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute category strategies including pricing, promotions, assortment, and space planning
• Analyze market trends, customer demand, and competitor activity to identify growth opportunities
• Manage product lifecycle including new product introductions, discontinuations, and positioning
• Lead supplier relationships, including negotiations on cost, freight, lead times, and promotional programs
• Identify and onboard new vendors to strengthen assortment and competitiveness
• Collaborate cross-functionally with merchandising, marketing, operations, and distribution teams
• Utilize data and reporting tools to track performance, forecast demand, and guide decisions
• Partner with store teams to identify opportunities and improve category performance

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• 3+ years of buying, merchandising, or category management experience
• Automotive background required (industry experience, product knowledge, or related exposure)
• Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency with data analysis tools and business software
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams
