Job Overview

Portzen Construction is seeking full-time Carpenters.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Read blueprints
  • Assist in building concrete formwork, pouring and finishing concrete
  • Rough framing wood or steel studs
  • Finish carpentry including doors, cabinets, countertops, interior and exterior trim
  • Ability to take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed
  • Work with Foreman or Project Superintendent to successfully complete projects
  • Ability to understand carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction
  • Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools including powered saw, hammers, rulers, etc.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required to join the apprenticeship program
  • Good understanding of basic math
  • Able to read and understand construction documents
  • Able to follow safety guidelines at all times
  • Squat and kneel repeatedly throughout the day
  • Lift 75 lbs. (one sheet of BBO plywood) repeatedly throughout the day
  • Will work in varied conditions including hot and cold exterior conditions
  • Must wear personal protective equipment provided

This position is a full-time position that can be seasonal, some travel may be required within a 150 mile radius of Dubuque.
