Position Summary

 

GENERAL SUMMARY: Under supervision, collect, haul and dump refuse, recyclable materials and other debris from containers into truck; drive solid waste collection truck and attached mechanical equipment; and perform related work as required.

Job Duties

 

  • Operate solid waste collection vehicles or material-moving equipment; and material processing equipment.
  • Climb ladders or vehicles to perform duties.
  • Inspect and maintain vehicles in good working condition including fueling, lubricating and washing.
  • Report vehicle or equipment malfunctions.
  • Notify others of emergencies, problems, or hazards.
  • Load garbage, large items, debris or materials.
  • Sort materials or objects for processing or transport.
  • Transport garbage and debris to designated disposal site.
  • Use time and attendance software and other records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Equipment Operation – Knowledge of safe operation and maintenance of diesel, gas and battery powered equipment.
  • Multilimb Coordination and Manual Dexterity - Using your arms and/or legs together while sitting, standing, crouching or kneeling; and holding or moving items with your hands.

 

Qualifications

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possession of a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Experience operating light or medium duty trucks and equipment.
  • Possession of a Class B CDL.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Duties require working outside in inclement weather; and medium to heavy work with occasional heavy lifting. Occasional weekend work required.
