Position: Electrical Project Manager/Estimator
Location: Dubuque, Iowa
Paulson Electric is a fourth-generation family-owned electrical design and construction company serving commercial, industrial and healthcare customers. We have offices in Dubuque, Cedar Rapids and Waterloo, Iowa with customers throughout the region. We look forward to hiring an electrical project manager/estimator who will manage project execution from concept through completion—while also developing accurate, competitive estimates that support strategic growth and maintain profitability.
Responsibilities:
Estimating
- Prepare detailed, accurate electrical estimates for industrial, commercial, and healthcare projects.
- Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and RFP documents.
- Perform material takeoffs, cost analysis, labor forecasting, and vendor/subcontractor pricing.
- Participate in bid reviews, value‑engineering discussions, and proposal development.
- Maintain historical cost data and continuously improve pricing strategies.
Project Management
- Oversee electrical construction projects from award through closeout.
- Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, procurement, and subcontractor coordination.
- Lead project meetings with clients, engineers, GC partners, and our internal team.
- Ensure installations meet code compliance, safety standards, and quality expectations.
- Track project progress, change orders, documentation, and cost controls.
- Foster strong client relationships to secure repeat business and referrals.
Required Skills:
Teamwork—you will work closely with the General Manager, project managers, field foremen and many others within the company to ensure project success;
Assessment and analysis—this is a highly analytical role, requiring the ability to quickly assess and analyze multiple data points, including blueprints, material costs, and timelines to deliver an accurate estimate and a successful project;
Attention to detail—you also need to be highly detail-oriented, in particular to be able to read and interpret complex electrical drawings, specifications, and other information from design professionals;
Organization and time management—time management is also key in this role, as you will need to manage multiple tasks and projects occurring at the same time; and
Communication—because you will work with customers, contractors, architects, and other professionals involved in construction projects, you should be an effective written and verbal communicator.
Completion of post-secondary education electrical training program preferred;
3+ years electrical construction experience preferred;
Knowledge of NEC, electrical construction methods, and industry best practices;
Familiarity with McCormick and Microsoft Office a plus;
Experience with industrial facilities, commercial buildings, and healthcare environments (OSHPD/JCAHO familiarity a plus); and
Journeyman electrician license or engineering background a plus.
