Job Overview

To provide innovative and fiscally responsive leadership for departmental credit offerings and day-to-day operations for the Arts and Sciences department, including Communication, Social Science, Humanities, Math, Science, Business, Paralegal, and Criminal Justice. The Dean will champion a culture of teaching excellence that honors our open-access mission, ensuring faculty are supported in delivering high-impact, student-centered instruction that meets the diverse needs of our region. This position is responsible for ensuring high-quality academic programs and coordinating comprehensive student support services that drive student retention and completion.

Master’s degree in a discipline area of oversight required. A minimum of three (3) years teaching experience at the post-secondary level or a combination of post-secondary and secondary teaching in a field related to area of supervision required. Ability to be credentialed via the NICC Quality Faculty Plan in the discipline area in which the candidate holds his/her Master’s degree. The candidate must be committed to excellence in teaching and learning and have strong leadership ability to participate fully in quality improvement at the personal, departmental, and institutional levels. Successful applicants should possess an understanding of the challenges facing higher education, embrace evolving technologies, and evidence an innovative problem-solving approach.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Must possess Iowa driver’s license.
Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Provide consistent support and supervision to department faculty and staff.

Observe and evaluate classroom performance; recommend the hiring, retention, or dismissal of personnel.

Actively promote and support faculty development and leadership opportunities.

Assist with district-wide schedule planning and faculty assignments.

Ensure all programs align with college, state, and accreditation standards.

Collaborate with the CLASS team to implement discipline assessment plans and measure student outcomes.

Maintain accurate program, course, and curriculum files to ensure publication uniformity and compliance.
Align department initiatives with the College Strategic Plan and monitor key program indicators (KPIs) to develop necessary action plans.

Promote student engagement with a focus on co-curricular learning and completion.

Maintain an “open-door” policy to resolve grievances and mediate student conduct issues.

Collaborate with Advising and Student Services to support transfer major and CTE program student advising.

Collaborate with the Library, Learning Center, and Accessibility Services to support student learning needs and faculty resources.

Oversee operational budgets and work with faculty to ensure the strategic and efficient use of college resources.

Monitor departmental supplies and equipment while advocating for program needs.

Assist in developing articulation agreements with other institutions.

Serve as the administrative representative for the Peosta and Calmar PTK chapters and represent the college at local, state, regional, and national events.

Participate in NICC accreditation initiatives and reporting.

Work with to other Deans to ensure general education programming meets the unique needs of CTE programs and multiple course modalities.
