Job Overview

Description

“Be helpful.” That is a line you will hear often at Revolution Lightboards. We seek to understand our customers’ pain and match it with appropriate solutions. We are seeking a Product Engineer to join our team and drive the continuous improvement of our physical products, manufacturing processes, and studio designs. This role focuses on the mechanical integrity, manufacturability, and supply chain management for the build of our innovative, patented video production systems.

Why Revolution?

Revolution Lightboards is the premier manufacturer and provider of video equipment solutions, including our flagship lightboards and real-time green-screen systems. We design and build proprietary systems in-house, some of which are already patented.

Join us for:

  • Hands-On Innovation: A culture of hands-on collaboration and continuous improvement where the best idea wins. We live by our core value: "Be helpful."
  • Direct Product Impact: Work with a talented team to design, manufacture, and ship proprietary, patented video systems globally from our facility in northeast Iowa. We have the equipment and studio spaces to quickly prototype and deploy new systems.
  • Competitive Rewards: We offer competitive compensation, medical insurance, paid holidays and vacation, and a SIMPLE IRA retirement program with company match and profit sharing.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who can be described as:

  • An intelligent, driven individual who thrives in a physical development environment
  • Creative and Curious: A natural tinkerer who enjoys taking things apart to understand how they work.
  • Having a proven ability to work independently
  • Able to lead projects from concept to deployment.
  • Strong technical problem solver who enjoys getting their hands dirty to solve a sticky issue.
  • Very organized
  • Collaborative team member
  • Strong written and verbal communicator

Core Responsibilities

The primary responsibility is to manage the lifecycle of our products with a focus on the physical products, spanning from high level design to mechanical components to production support.

  • Mechanical Design & Documentation
    • Lead the mechanical design, modeling, and detailing of new product subcomponents and studio systems.
    • Manage and maintain all engineering drawings, ensuring accuracy and version control.
    • Drive continuous improvement (CI) efforts by redesigning existing components and systems to improve manufacturability, reduce cost, and enhance reliability.
    • Support and improve in-house manufacturing processes, including developing and testing prototypes and documenting procedures as needed.
  • Vendor & Supply Chain Management
  • Manage vendor relationships and serve as the primary technical point of contact for mechanical component suppliers (e.g., metal, plastic, and glass fabrication).
  • Coordinate purchasing and inventory of related mechanical equipment and components, ensuring quality and supply availability.
  • Assist in the review and testing of components and assemblies to maintain high quality standards.

Education/Experience:

Required:

  • 4-year degree in an engineering/technology related field or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of hands-on mechanical design in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360)
  • Comfortable working with basic hand tools and supporting physical manufacturing operations
  • Proven reliable and accountable team member
  • High level of attention to detail & organizational skills

Preferred:

  • Successful experience in a mechanical design or product development role
  • Familiarity with R&D processes and the ability to contribute to new product innovation
  • Experience in vendor management, coordinating purchasing, and technical specification review
  • Knowledge of common fabrication methods (e.g., welding, machining, sheet metal bending, 3D printing).
  • Competency using computers & technology for a variety of tasks including Microsoft/Google applications; such as Word/Docs, Excel/Sheets, and PowerPoint/Slides
  • Knowledge or interest in continuous improvement

Travel: Up to 10-15% to attend trade shows representing Revolution as an exhibitor, attending industry shows to learn, or periodically to customer sites for hands-on install or product development work.
