Job Overview
Senior Experiential Designer
McCullough Creative champions ideas worth elevating. We brand, design, and build custom exhibits, environments, and experiential spaces for museums, nature centers, and leading brands. Our clients have big ambitions, and we’re the rocket fuel that helps make them happen.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Senior Experiential Designer who can lead both the vision and execution of immersive environments that engage, inform, and inspire.
In this role, you’ll shape big ideas—crafting spatial narratives, visitor journeys, and interactive concepts—while also ensuring those ideas are grounded in reality. You understand not just what should be built, but how it comes together, from materials and mechanics to fabrication and installation.
You’ll collaborate closely with graphic production and fabrication teams to refine ideas, solve challenges, and elevate the final product.
This is a fast-paced, high-impact role where you’ll influence creative direction, contribute to hands-on design development, and continue to grow your own skills alongside a talented, driven team.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the creative direction and conceptual development of experiential projects
- Translate client goals into compelling spatial narratives and visitor journeys
- Facilitate discovery sessions and collaborate closely with clients and internal teams
- Develop content strategies, messaging frameworks, and interactive concepts
- Guide design teams through execution while ensuring alignment with the original vision
- Partner with Production to ensure designs are feasible, functional, and impactful
- Mentor and support designers, fostering growth and elevating team output while continuing to expand your own creative and technical capabilities and influence across projects
- Present ideas confidently to clients and stakeholders
- Develop designs with a strong understanding of materials, scale, fabrication methods, and installation requirements
- Collaborate with graphic production and fabrication leads to refine and enhance design solutions
- Ensure concepts are not only compelling, but practical, buildable, and within scope
What We’re Looking For
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, Architecture, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 10+ years of experience in experiential, exhibit, or environmental design
- Strong portfolio demonstrating concept-driven, immersive environments
- Proven ability to lead projects from concept through execution
- Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite and 3D design tools (SketchUp, Blender, or similar)
- Excellent storytelling, communication, and presentation skills
- Strong understanding of the full design/build process
- Demonstrated ability to balance conceptual thinking with practical execution
- Experience working closely with fabrication and production teams
Preferred:
- Experience with museums, cultural institutions, corporate environments, or branded experiences
- Background in interpretive design or content development
- Experience leading client engagements and workshops
- Familiarity with industries such as agriculture, technology, manufacturing, or construction
Core Traits:
- Strategic thinker who connects big ideas to real-world execution
- Collaborative leader who elevates those around them
- Curious, adaptable, and energized by new challenges
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality
- Confident communicator who can inspire both clients and teammates
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent projects
Why McCullough Creative?
