Job Overview

3D/Experiential Designer

McCullough Creative champions ideas worth elevating. We brand, design, and build custom exhibits, environments, and experiential spaces for museums, nature centers, and leading brands. Our clients have big ambitions, and we’re the rocket fuel that helps make them happen.

About the Role

We’re looking for a 3D / Experiential Designer who thrives on bringing ideas to life through detailed design and execution.

In this role, you’ll support the development of experiential environments by translating concepts into clear, buildable design solutions. You’ll work closely with senior designers and production teams to refine layouts, develop 3D models, and ensure designs are accurate, feasible, and ready for fabrication.

This is a hands-on, fast-paced role ideal for someone who enjoys the technical and detail-oriented side of design, while still contributing creatively to the overall experience. Growth paths are dependent on your aptitude and interests, and would likely either expand into the experience design expertise or the technical production/design engineering discipline.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to understand audiences, goals, and project vision
  • Support the development of visitor journeys, content maps, and experiential concepts
  • Execute engaging exhibit and environment designs that bring creative concepts to life
  • Approach projects from the visitor’s perspective to enhance usability and impact
  • Bridge the gap between Creative and Production teams to bring ideas to life
  • Create detailed 3D models, layouts, and production-ready files
  • Collaborate with production teams to ensure accuracy, feasibility, and build readiness
  • Contribute to a collaborative, idea-driven culture where teamwork drives the best outcomes

What We’re Looking For

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of relevant design experience preferred
  • Strong hands-on design skills with a portfolio demonstrating 3D/exhibit work
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Mac-based workflows
  • Experience with 3D modeling tools such as SketchUp, Blender, or similar
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and time management skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to own deliverables from concept through execution

Preferred:

  • Experience with interpretive design (museums, nature centers, educational or cultural spaces)
  • Conceptual sketching ability
  • Familiarity with industries such as agriculture, technology, manufacturing, or construction
  • Ability to contribute to content development and storytelling

Core Traits:

  • Strong listener who can uncover and articulate key ideas
  • Organized, disciplined, and adaptable
  • Persistent, solutions-oriented, and quality-driven
  • Team player who contributes energy and positivity
