Job Overview
Job Purpose:
- The Pharmacy Technician I at Crescent Community Health Center promotes quality-care goals, builds efficiency, and improves patient care and outcomes. Under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician I takes important steps to ensure all medication needs and regulatory compliance standards are met for our patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist physician order entry, including transcribing verbal orders and written orders.
- Manage pharmacist workflow and scheduling, including record retrieval for medication reconciliation, vaccination history, and pharmacist visit preparation.
- Manage hospital medication inventory, including ordering, stocking/organizing to prevent mispicks/medication errors, rotating stock to minimize expired products, proactively responding to drug shortages, maintaining appropriate stock levels of formulary medications, using drop ship and alternative suppliers appropriately, acquiring non-formulary medications, and oversee the disposition of expired products. Accurately prepare medications in unit of use containers, ensuring correct labeling of medication, precise mixing of ingredients, and documentation as required by state regulations.
- Manage medication dispensing systems within patient care areas, including accurate selection and loading of medications, organize according to ISMP safety initiatives, evaluate medication use trends to maintain appropriate par levels, ensure removal of expired/damaged products in a timely manner, and resolve discrepancies. Procure supplies, equipment, services, and merchandise; request price quotes; facilitate purchasing proposals and contract negotiations.
- Maintain appropriate inventory records, including supplier invoices and medication dispensing systems, deliver/receive logs, as required by hospital policy and state and federal regulations.
- Maintain an adequate supply of medications regularly used and requested by the departments
- Assists in performing yearly Controlled-Substance inventory and annual hospital-wide medication inventory.
- Maintain 340b integrity by performing audits, ensuring compliance with program requirements, ensuring rebate programs are complied with, evaluating patient eligibility and ensuring adherence to the 340B program regulations and guidelines.
- Manage and operates all equipment safely and correctly.
- Communicate effectively with nursing, physicians, and ancillary services to meet the needs of these departments and maintain a positive working relationship and image of the pharmacy department.
