About the Opportunity
Specialized Recruiting Group is seeking an Automation / Electro-Mechanical Technology Instructor for a confidential opportunity with a technical college in Southwest Wisconsin. This role is ideal for an experienced automation or manufacturing professional who wants to transition into education while helping develop the next generation of skilled technicians.
The Instructor will deliver hands-on training in industrial automation, robotics, motor controls, and PLC systems. This position blends classroom instruction with real-world industry collaboration, including direct partnerships with local manufacturers to support workforce development and advanced manufacturing initiatives.
No prior teaching experience is required—training and support are provided.
Responsibilities
- Deliver hands-on, college-level instruction in PLCs, robotics, motor controls, and industrial automation
- Support development of new automation and electro-mechanical degree programming aligned with industry needs
- Guide students through real-world manufacturing and automation projects focused on efficiency and problem-solving
- Incorporate current industry practices into curriculum and training delivery
- Partner with local manufacturers through the Wisconsin Energy Partnership (WEP), a U.S. Department of Energy-funded initiative
- Assess workforce training needs and help develop customized training programs
- Support delivery of upskilling programs for industry employees
- Ensure training initiatives meet performance goals, timelines, and industry standards
- Engage high school students through dual-credit courses and career exploration programs
- Participate in STEM events, workshops, and career fairs
- Promote careers in automation, robotics, and electro-mechanical technology
Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in Automation, Industrial Technology, Electro-Mechanical, Robotics, or related field
- 5+ years of industry experience in automation, PLC programming, robotics, or motor controls
- Strong technical knowledge of industrial automation systems and smart manufacturing
- Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring skills
- Ability to work effectively in a hands-on instructional environment
- Experience developing training programs or instructional materials (preferred)
- Familiarity with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar PLC platforms (preferred)
- Certifications in automation, robotics, or related technologies (preferred)
Technical Skills
- PLC programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.)
- Industrial robotics systems operation and maintenance
- Motor controls (AC/DC motors, VFDs, starters, control logic)
- Industrial automation systems (sensors, HMIs, industrial networking)
- Smart manufacturing technologies (IIoT, connected systems, data collection)
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic capabilities
