The DevOps Engineer I is a sharp, disciplined, self-starter with the ability to work independently or as part of a project. They handle team ticket triage, as well as tools and access support for Engineering staff. The Engineer monitors the performance of the pipelines and supports the development of applications and services. They handle tasks that are a hybrid of trusted DBA functions, release management and troubleshooting of supported systems. The Engineer is available for afterhours work as required to support availability, releases and maintenance.
Essential Responsibilities (includes, but is not limited to):
- Triage DevOps team tickets (25%)
- Manage and maintain the security and access controls for supported services (25%)
- Manage code base, branch, and pull requests (25%)
- Support Continuous Integration and Continuous Development (CI/CD) of Pax8 services (15%)
- Oversee monitoring and performance metrics for managed resources (10%)
Ideal Skills, Experience, and Competencies:
- At least one (1) to three (3) years of experience supporting application development, preferably microservices and a Java based web platform
- Programming/scripting language skills in Python, AWS CLI and Bash preferred
- Experience supporting AWS services
- Maintenance of IaC and configuration management using Terraform, Ansible and Git
- Maintenance of CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Jenkins
- Understands networking principles and technologies
- Basic PSQL Database administration tasks and query support experience
- Experience working in a Lean/Agile environment using tools such as Jira, Wrike, LeanKit, Rally or similar
- Strong presentation, written, and verbal communication skills
- Strong desire for automation
- Ability to build strong customer relationships and deliver customer-centric solutions
- Ability to make good and timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward
- Ability to gain the confidence and trust of others through honesty, integrity, and authenticity
- Ability to maneuver comfortably through complex policy, process, and people-related organizational dynamics

Required Education & Certifications:
- B.A./B.S. in related field or equivalent work experience
Compensation:
- Qualified candidates can expect a salary or conversion salary beginning at $87,000 or more. Starting salary is based on various factors and is commensurate with qualifications, experience, competencies, internal equity, and cost of labor. Base salary is just one component of the Total Rewards package we provide our employees.
- Qualified contract candidates can expect an hourly rate of $54.50/hr or more depending on experience. Contract to hire candidates will be eligible for the benefits package below if and when they convert to regular employees.
