Job Overview

Alliant Energy has an outstanding opportunity for a Category Management Specialist to join our team in Madison WI and Cedar Rapids, IA! Supporting the supply chain relationship, resource and portfolio management team, you will integrate internal client initiatives, strategy, and business direction with supply management. Focusing on cultivating strategic partnerships with clients and vendors crafting new value for the company by advancing business objectives. Collaborating with client subject matter specialists and managers to assess business requirements and develops strategic plans for ongoing sourcing needs. Works seamlessly with supply chain contract management and business performance teams in order to execute projects successfully.

Responsible for developing strategic portfolio management plans to implement value creation both through decreasing costs (via improved vendor selection and management, as well as process efficiencies) and increasing top-line growth.

  • This position offers a blend of working from home, and in the Cedar Rapids, IA office or Madison, WI office on average 2 days per week. The successful candidate must reside in either Iowa or Wisconsin.
  • Salary Range $70,000 - $82,000.

Job Responsibilities

In this role you will....

  • Support a program to evaluate new and existing vendors as well as their products and services to create synergy across business organizations. Issuing and evaluating strategic Request for Information (RFI) and Request for Proposal (RFP).
  • Work on multi-functional teams to effectively engage key stakeholders to advance supply chain initiatives that support the company’s strategic objectives. As well as facilitating routine business review meetings with clients and key suppliers.

Job Qualifications

Required Experience

  • 5 years of related experience in purchasing or supply chain.

Preferred Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis in Business Administration, Purchasing or Supply Chain.
  • Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) designation

We also prefer:

  • Ability to work in a diverse work environment and proven cross-functional team work experience, including the ability to track and report project status from start to finish, as well as the ability to gain trust and confidence of internal and external personnel.
  • Ability to guide collaborative projects with suppliers to deliver value, efficiencies and/or improvements in safety and quality. Persuasive communication skills (oral and written) with an ability to communicate to senior executives in client organizations with excellent analytic, negotiation, and problem solving skills.
  • Experience handling multiple high-profile projects simultaneously and ability to take ownership of assigned projects. Establishing proficiency utilizing evolving technological tools to streamline daily tasks and communications.
