Where You Will Be Working:

Medical Associates Clinic and Health Plans is a physician-owned multi-specialty group practice.  Our 180+ physicians and advanced practice providers, and 800+ other health care professionals and staff lead the way in providing quality healthcare in Northeast Iowa, Southwest Wisconsin and Northwest Illinois. The Director of Facilities & Plant Operations position is based out of Dubuque and oversees both the East and West campuses in Dubuque, Iowa and all 12 other operational sites.

What You Will Be Doing:

As a Director of Facilities & Plant Operations, you will assume overall responsibility for facility planning and operations, which includes plant operations/maintenance and environmental services.

You will be working with a variety of people including clinical directors and managers, physicians, outside vendors, and across all departments within the clinic and health plans.  You will be responsible for the oversight and/of completion of architectural design and the management and development of facility and plant operations staff. Other responsibilities include payroll, scheduling, budgeting, and compliance with infection control and safety/regulatory guidelines. You will help oversee your departments through two managers, and positively initiate and lead facility projects and change.

Schedule:
As a general leadership position, core business hours for this position are Mon-Fri, 8-5:00 with flexibility to attend to meetings and duties outside core business hours on occasion.  There is general oversight accountability for all facilities on a 24x7 basis, with an on-call structure supported at the maintenance staff level.

What Skills You Bring:

  • Bachelors Degree in related field with facilities/project/construction management and general leadership experience. Healthcare experience and Architect license preferred, but not required.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively and lead effectively

 Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Medical Associates resource in matters dealing with the Facility Planning and Plant Operations. Retain outside consultants as necessary to assist in accomplishing the goals of Medical Associates. Serve as the professional liaison between the organization and the various outside contractors and consultants retained to accomplish services.
  • Direct selection, training, development, performance evaluation, and performance issues for Maintenance and Environmental Services departments. Assure adequate staffing levels to deliver a high level of customer service/patient experience.
  • Develop and manage ongoing plans for facility utilization, planning for future space needs and an ongoing preventative maintenance and replacement program.
  • Perform administrative duties, which may include but are not limited to preparing annual budgets, attending meetings, collecting/compiling data and prepares reports.
  • Develop the organizational structure necessary to manage the physical plant operations of the various sites of Medical Associates. Provide overall professional and management direction to the division.
  • Develop and direct security and assist with safety programs and systems at all Medical Associates facilities.
  • Represent the corporation before community entities such as fire, police, boards and commissions related to facilities and construction projects. Responsible for maintaining working relationships and communications with these boards and commissions, and will maintain a knowledge base of regulations and ordinances which apply in particular with regard to the healthcare industry.
  • Design, develop, supervise, and manage the construction of all new and remodeled space, including administering of budget for projects. If you are an architect, you would complete all architectural designs directly. A non-architect will oversee this work.
  • Be knowledgeable in Federal and State (IA, IL, WI) regulations which apply to healthcare facilities. Assure that the organization and its various projects are in compliance with these regulations. Be actively involved in preparation of such applications as may be necessary in the course of the organization’s planning activities.
  • Complete all other assigned projects and duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience, in related field. Architect license preferred, but not required.

Experience: Five to ten years of similar or related experience.

Interpersonal Skills: The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of diplomacy and trust.  Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the job.

A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact.  Work involves extensive personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization, and/is usually of a personal or sensitive nature.  Work may involve motivating or influencing others.  Outside contacts become important (vendor reps, labs, offices, hospital, etc.) and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary.
