Job Overview
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Plan, organize and monitor the receiving, storage and distribution of raw materials received in an efficient manner to satisfy internal and external customer requirements.
ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises and coordinates activities. Provides direction to the warehouse concerning all aspects of the receiving process including material testing, scheduling, etc. Ensures raw materials meet company specifications and that all food safety testing and documentation is completed before raw materials are made available to production. Oversees inter-company transfers of raw materials. Communicates in a timely manner any critical inventory shortages and/or failed critical raw material deliveries. Ensures proper inventory rotation. Maintains inventory of freezer and warehouse under approved limits. Works closely with Production Supervisors to ensure product is used prior to expiration dates to eliminate waste. Oversees the 30 day inspection process of the raw ingredient storage areas to maintain cleanliness, verifies pest control procedures, verifies FIFO, and Control Expiry dates. Delegates inspection of every pallet that is received and ensures storage in the correct location based on MAPs software. Assists with year-end inventory. Notifies Quality Assurance and Procurement of any deviations for proper disposition. Notifies appropriate personnel of any receiving issues (wrong product shipped, rejected or adulterated ingredients, positive release items, deliveries from unapproved or non-EU compliant suppliers/vendors/factories, etc.). Verifies accuracy of receiving documentation and delivers paperwork to proper entities for processing. Provides support to production as needed to verify location and inventory quantities of raw materials. Works closely with cross functional teams. Provides support to Procurement by verifying minimum inventory levels to complete weekly production planning as well as the ascertaining cause of any inventory discrepancies. Ensures cycle counting of raw materials is performed and turned into procurement per company policy. Conducts training of all new employees in areas such as safety, SWIs, 5s programs, paperwork, bar codes, etc. Builds strong relationships with vendors. Performs a variety of tasks. Responsible for the weekly checklists of process improvements and safety hazard identification. Takes care of recycle and fumigation trailers. Keeps waste logs. Completes work order requests needed for repairs. Conducts safety meetings and weekly meetings to discuss production goals. Makes sure positions are covered prior to starting operations. Motivates and fosters teamwork and cooperation. Manages employees. Directs and supervises employees' work activities and monitors work performance. Collaborates with Human Resources to screen, interview and hire candidates. Administers disciplinary actions and recommends performance improvement actions in collaboration with the HR Manager. Monitors work performance and recommends compensation decisions based on guidelines. Follows Simmons values to develop and maintain a favorable working relationship with all employees. Physical Activities: Enters and locates information on a computer. Visually verifies information, often in small print. Communicates with Customers, Vendors, or Employees via telephone, in person, and/or electronic mail. May present information to small or large groups. Must be able to work in various temperatures. Move about in a manufacturing environment and surrounding property.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Steel toed shoes, Ear Plugs, Hair Net.
Travel: Occasionally for training purposes.
Technical Experience: Must be able to obtain company-issued forklift certification. Willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction required. Must be able to read and write English. Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods. Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resource management, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources. Must be familiar with computers and be proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
Industry Experience: Preferred experience within a food processing organization.
Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree or 4 years related work experience with a minimum of 1 year experience in a leading role included in the 4 years related work experience.
