*Example Contract dates:

• September 6, 2022 —August 19, 2023 (50 Week Contract);
• September 19, 2022 —September 2, 2023 (50 Week Contract);

*Contract start and end dates are flexible and rotate on a bi-weekly schedule

1700 Hours Contract - Minimum of 36 hours/week

Compensation: Living Allowance Total: $ 25,500 ($1,020 -taxes every 2 weeks over 50 weeks) + Education Award: $6,495.00*

Description: AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs, made up of three primary programs that each take a different approach to improving lives and fostering civic engagement. Members commit their time to address critical community needs like increasing academic achievement, mentoring youth, fighting poverty, sustaining national parks, preparing for disasters, and more. In return, members receive a modest living allowance and an educational award that can be used to pay educational costs at eligible post-secondary educational institutions or qualified student loans. Members who are 55+ years of age can transfer award to child or grandchild.

The Teen Creative Engagement Specialist will serve under the Arts & Cultural Affairs Coordinator, in partnership with community organizations specializing in Arts & Culture programming, to provide arts and culture-based community engagement and education opportunities to middle and high school-aged students. This AmeriCorps position will be responsible for program development, implementation and evaluation, and outreach to the community youth populations.

AmeriCorps Members receive a bi-weekly living stipend and upon the completion of their contract, AmeriCorps member will receive education award in the form of an electronic payment through my.americorpgs.gov. Education award may be used to pay educational costs at eligible post-secondary educational institutions or qualified student loans. Members who are 55+ years of age can transfer award to child or grandchild.

• Collaborate with the community partners and other City of Dubuque departments to provide programming and outreach to students and families within the Dubuque community;
• Develop fun and engaging, age-appropriate activities focused around arts & culture, positive social-emotional learning and development, community and civic engagement;
• Promote public display and exhibitions of community youthsΓÇÖ artistic creations;
• Develop and implement teen-focused activities at Community Public Art Experiences and at partner programs and events (ex: Art on the River, Winter Arts Snow Sculpting Festival, DubuqueFest);
• Document and maintain impact on area teens who participate in arts & cultural affairs programming;
• Build and maintain positive and meaningful relationships with teenaged youth participants;
• Cultivate relationships with area non-profit and community schools to provide engaging activities;
• Develop and promote an inventory of teen-focused arts & culture programs provided in the community;
• Carry out skill building activities in the following areas: arts, culture, social-emotional learning, and community involvement;
• Support at-risk youth during activities, programs and events through positive adult interactions, academic engagement, recreational activities, and encouraging peer engagement;
• Act as a role model exhibiting appropriate behavior including civic responsibility, community action, and relationship building and constructive participation;
• Maintain and uphold confidentiality practices and policies;
• Attend all AmeriCorps trainings and service projects;
• The program may require the member to engage in other allowable activities that are not specifically outlined in the position description, but that support the AmeriCorps program design and which help the program meet its goals. In no circumstance will members be asked to perform prohibited activities outlined in the Member Service Agreement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Applicant must pass three-part Criminal History Background Check because of reoccurring access to vulnerable populations.
3. Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident or U.S. National to serve with AmeriCorps Program.
4. Must be competent in working with youth from different cultures and diverse backgrounds
5. Must be competent in utilizing technology.
6. Must have reliable transportation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Walk and carry materials up and down steps; stand and walk for extended periods of time; lift 30 pounds; bend, squat and kneel.

SERVICE SCHEDULE:

Service activities will take place predominately at community events and activities and the City of Dubuque Annex and the Multicultural Family Center for office hours. The AmeriCorps Member must be able to flexibly serve between the hours of 10:00 AM — 8:00 PM, Monday through Friday with opportunities for running weekend programming. Members may be asked to serve at special events and activities within the grant partnership that may be outside of the member' normal service hours. Members are required to attend the monthly training offered to all AmeriCorps Members within the AmeriCorps Partners in Program as well as the National Days of Service. Site Supervisors will plan a monthly service schedule in calendar format in which both the member and site supervisor will agree and adhere to. This schedule is meant to outline how the member will successfully get to the allotted hours within the term limits.
