Job Overview
Under the supervision of a pharmacist, the certified pharmacy technician assists in the provision of pharmaceutical care to inpatients and outpatients ranging in age from premature newborns to geriatrics. The certified pharmacy technician is involved in the provision of educational and employee services to patients, guests, hospital and medical staff of MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. 2. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.
3. Demonstrates specific customer focused behaviors.
4. Supports and abides by all MercyOne departmental and safety policies and procedures.
5. Acts in a professional manner reflecting the mission, philosophy, and values of MercyOne.
6. Works with and assists pharmacists and nurses with pharmacy related issues for patients and facilitates the implementation of physician orders.
7. Performs dispensing functions under the supervision of a pharmacist.
8. Prepares IV admixtures as well as any other sterile preparation encountered in pharmacy according to departmental policies.
9. Prepares IV chemotherapy admixtures in pharmacy according to departmental policies.
10. Makes regular deliveries of medications to nursing units.
11. Processes Unit Based Cabinet Refill Reports and promptly delivers / resupplies medications to the nursing units.
12. Answers and processes incoming phone calls to the department.
13. Assists with department inventory procedures and processes.
14. Processes patient medication charges and credits accurately into pharmacy and / or hospital information system.
15. Performs other duties as assigned by supervising pharmacist or director.
16. Demonstrates activity to impact change within your department and with other departments.
17. Promotes and establishes effective relationships within the department, with other departments, physicians, and with hospital guest and clients.
18. Takes an active role in enhancing abilities to carry out job functions through personal and professional/job-related growth and development.
19. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
1. High school or equivalent education degree/certificate.
2. Typing, clerical and science background desirable.
3. Register and maintain as a pharmacy technician in Iowa within 30 days of employment.
4. Maintain national technician certification as outlined by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy.
5. Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
