Clerk Cashier

Performs skilled clerical and responsible technical work involving the collection of funds for licenses, fees, taxes, assessments and other collectibles and the maintenance of financial records; does related work as required.

• Serves as cashier, receives, receipts and accounts for fees, payments, taxes, licenses, special assessments and other collectibles;
• Receives, records, processes and deposits funds collected by other County agencies;
• Posts receipts to proper accounts, balances and closes out daily, prepares and makes bank deposits;
• Distributes and processes licenses, updates computer records;
• Processes real estate tax bills, pulls mortgage company requests, prepares adjustments and tax certifications;
• Calculates penalties and interest;
• Prepares delinquent real estate tax bills;
• Operates computer to secure information for collection purposes and to post collections;
• Interprets procedures and regulations when working with the public;
• Performs skilled clerical work, types forms, registrations, documents, titles, etc.;
• May be required to receive and sort mail;
• May occasionally be required to work in Dyersville location.
• Performs related tasks as required

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school including course work in bookkeeping and considerable experience in general office work involving contact with the public.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Thorough knowledge of collection and cashiering procedures, methods and processes; general knowledge of real estate, automotive license and mobile home taxation regulations, procedures and techniques; general knowledge of bookkeeping terminology, methods, procedures and equipment; general knowledge of standard office procedures, practices and equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy; skill in the use of a variety of office and data processing equipment and some typing ability; ability to get along well with others.
