Primary Responsibilities: As an OSHA construction safety intern you will assist in the production of an OSHA compliant, written City of Dubuque Construction Safety Program under the direct supervision of the Project Manager; The Construction Safety Program Manual will be used by all city employees and hired contractors. The construction safety program manual will encompass all construction work activities typically encountered on a City building or roadway construction project. The manual will provide workers with practical direction on how to comply with 29 CFR 1926, OSHA’s construction industry regulations. Work involves organizing content and drafting language for the manual; researching applicable industry safety regulations; coordinate reviews of draft manual language with other City departments and safety consultants; and perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- College student enrolled in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Sophomore or higher-level college student enrolled in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or related field.
- Experience working in the occupational safety or construction industry.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

- Technical Writing – Ability to understand complex concepts, structure them into an easily digestible format, and put ideas and information into written words in a way that can quickly and easily absorbed by readers.

- Systems Analysis- Figuring out how a system should work and how changes in the future will affect it.
- Systems Evaluation- Measuring how well a system is working and how to improve it.

- Communication - Ability to effectively communicate information to support organizational objectives, both verbally and in writing, and interact with all levels of city staff and outside stakeholders in a positive and cooperative manner.
Full Time/Part Time: Seasonal, non-exempt
Pay Range: $14.90-$17.30. Salary will be commensurate with experience and capabilities.
Work Schedule: Normal city business hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The successful candidate will primarily work a day shift, instituting a flex schedule as consistent with seasonal positions in a professional work environment. Position requires response to contractor situations outside of normal working hours on occasion.
Primary Work Location and Work Environment: City Hall is the home office location. Position duties include working indoors, and outdoors in all types of weather conditions; and regular travel to assigned project locations to investigate field conditions, trouble shoot technical problems, or collaborate with private vendors.
