Job Overview
Coordinates and performs a variety of road repair and maintenance projects. Provides work direction for assigned crews to ensure that projects are completed in a timely, safe and effective manner. Communicates with related parties on maintenance and repair projects. Does related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision of County Engineer or Roads Maintenance Superintendent. Direct supervision & management is exercised over employees. This position also effectively acts as the Maintenance Superintendent in his/her absence. CLASS AND GRADE The assistant roads maintenance superintendent position is a mid-level managerial position. This is a non-bargaining unit position compensated at an hourly rate. Employees of this classification are eligible for overtime pay. The assistant roads maintenance superintendent is a full time position only, with compensation set by the Board of Supervisors based on there commendation of the County Engineer. This position requires the use of independent judgement in assigning and completing tasks. This position directly supervises maintenance crews with the ability to evaluate/effectively recommend discipline to the Engineer.

Minimum Qualifications: |
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in road construction, maintenance and supervision of crews of workers engaged in a variety of tasks.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of: The safe use, operation and preventive maintenance of all trucks and construction equipment. Occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary to the proper operation of varied construction and maintenance equipment. Ability to: Follow plans, diagrams, specifications and directions related to maintenance projects. To perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions. Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with fellow employees and the public.
