Description
This position is responsible for materials (paints, stains, adhesives, sealants) and their application processes used within the Andersen product portfolio. By working closely with our design and operation partners, this role will lead material and process development projects in various technical competency areas with a focus on coatings. Projects will involve technology/process development to be implemented at the Dubuque manufacturing facility. Objectives will include cost, quality, and/or performance enhancements of product solutions.
(Travel 5-15%)
Job Responsibilities:
· Lead coatings, adhesives, or sealants technology projects and make recommendations to stakeholders and technical leaders as to viability of solutions to meet business needs
- Test and validate new materials in production
- Assist with implementation of new processes in a manufacturing environment
· Work closely with suppliers to influence development of novel solutions
· Design, analyze, and report on experimental studies and / or new coating technologies
- Conduct project work and coordinate activities with other engineering teams inside Andersen
- Consult with cross-functional and other materials teams (glass, wood, composites)
- Stay abreast of industry technology developments and explore their use in Andersen products
· Provide technical support for materials questions, technical training, and/or technical specification development
· Serve as a technical contact for manufacturing partners, internal and external
· Drive improvement efforts through a solid understanding and application of statistical tools and interpretation of results for effective solutions (i.e., Design of Experiments, process mapping, process capability analysis, Pugh matrix, FMEA, MSA, control plans, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications
· BS Chemical/Materials Engineering or Materials Science or similar Engineering discipline
· Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
· Project management experience and experience working with collaborative, cross-functional teams
· Strong working knowledge of product development principles
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to build relationships and make presentations to all levels of the organization
· Strong mechanical aptitude
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook) as well as statistical software (Minitab, JMP, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
· 3+ years engineering or technical experience working on coatings or metals processes, development, and/or testing
· Working knowledge of coatings, and some experience with adhesives or sealants
· Experience in the fenestration or related industry
· Strong analytical skills and materials analysis experience

Profit Sharing
During 2022, each eligible Andersen employee will receive $1,000 for each full fiscal quarter they are actively employed and fully vaccinated against COVID-19. An eligible employee hired during a quarter will receive a prorated payment based on the number of days employed during the quarter. Those eligible include fully-vaccinated regular full-time and part-time employees (at least 20 hours per week) who are not subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
