Lab Clerk (Part-time)
Position is located within our NEW Family Medicine Clinic on the west end of Dubuque, IA
Grand River Medical Group is seeking an organized and friendly receptionist to perform clerical duties for the daily operation of the lab and radiology department. These duties include scheduling appointments, verifying patient demographics and insurance, checking patients in, transmitting orders, and answering telephone calls. The lab clerk will also be cross trained to perform venipunctures and collect urine specimens from patients as needed.
The ideal candidate would possess strong organizational skills, the ability to multi-task and work efficiently with little supervision. You will provide an exceptional patient experience while exemplifying empathy and respect to patients and co-workers. You will be a team player and work closely with the receptionists, phlebotomists, clinicians, and all other members of the care team.
As a Lab Clerk, you will need the ability to use office equipment such as computers, telephones, and fax and copier machines. You will become knowledgeable of the lab information system, PACS system and electronic medical record.
This is a part-time position, 20-30 hours per week. This position is typically 3 days per week, with no evening or weekend requirements. Position will rotate between our west end lab/radiology department and Multi-Specialty Clinic lab.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Greet and check in patients presenting themselves for clinic appointments.
- Schedule appointments for patients; assure that all are properly scheduled in the computer system. Complete schedule maintenance as directed.
- Verify patient information (name, date of birth, address) and insurance information from the practice management system.
- Organize daily work for department schedules including printing orders, transmitting orders, setting up history sheets and waivers when needed/as assigned.
- Review schedules to work up any add on patients.
- Cancel appointments appropriately; assure proper documentation for patient record. Route to appropriate clinician/nurse team.
- Answer phone promptly, take messages and provide routine information.
- Review orders, encounters and documents in the electronic medical record.
- Perform venipunctures and obtain urine specimens; requires use of color vision. Monitor the identification, processing, transportation of specimens to ensure specimen integrity.
- Perform therapeutic phlebotomies. Instruct patients in collection of 24-hour urine specimen.
- Assist patient before, during and after specimen collection.
Education/Experience/Skills:
- Ability to provide a high-quality customer experience with each interaction.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Friendly, empathetic, and accountable.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- One to two years similar or related experience and/or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to use office equipment, such as computer, telephone, fax, copier, calculator.
- Knowledge of lab information system, patient scheduling program and electronic medical record - preferred.
