The Residential Connection Specialist- installs, operates, inspects, maintains, and services digital, cable, high speed data and digital phone equipment. Conducts safe and efficient operation and maintenance of various tools and equipment. Troubleshoots and repairs all cable related services and equipment. Tests equipment to adjust signal strength and ensure optimum reception. Maintains cable television and high-speed data accounts by installing convertors and modems, disconnecting and reconnecting accounts if needed. Communicates with customers on-site, encouraging them to upgrade equipment or service packages.
Essential Job Responsibilities for Primary Functional Area of Accountability
- Set-up service for customers, installing, connecting, or adjusting equipment.
- Test equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Travel to customers’ premises to install, maintain, or repair electronic reception equipment or accessories.
- Measure signal strength at utility pole or customer premises, using electrical test equipment.
- Inspect or test lines or cables, recording and analyzing test results, to assess transmission characteristics and locate faults or malfunctions.
- Access specific areas to string lines or install terminal boxes, auxiliary equipment, by climbing ladders or entering crawl spaces.
- Explain cable service to subscribers after installation and collect any installation dues that are due.
- Obtain ability to run full route
- Ability to go into the on-call schedule
- Successful completion of Jones NCTI Installer course
- Successful completion of Jones NCTI Field Safety course
- Successfully and consistently demonstrating the skills from NCTI courses

- How to do Customer Disconnections (Discos)
- Understanding of All types of customer-premises equipment (CPE) (Modems, Set top boxes, ONTs, routers) and their use.
- Learn to successfully complete Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) installations
- Learn and Live the ImOn Culture
- Learn to successfully complete Fiber to the Home (FTTH) installations
- Learn the basic use of the BBX Diagnostics tool which assists in helping networks run smoothly and to easily find faults.
- Learn to successfully complete Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) installations
- Learn to successfully navigate the ImOn Communications programs the navigation of Omnia / Oasis.
- All other duties as assigned
Requirements
We're looking for someone who has:
- High-school diploma or equivalent GED or work experience
- Must have a valid state issued Driver’s License.
Essential Physical Abilities: Requires the following with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing which permits the employee to communicate effectively.
- Sufficient vision which permits the employee to operate equipment and tools.
- Sufficient manual dexterity and personal mobility which permits employee to operate equipment.
- Capable to carry, climb and operate extension ladder, (approx. 28 ft high and 75+ pounds).
- Must accommodate various working conditions such as: Poorly ventilated areas such as attics during extreme heat, dust, dirt, noise, insects, cleaning solution; work outdoors in all kinds of weather and at all times of the day or night; work near power lines and electricity.
- Capable to climb poles using gaffs, hooks and climbing belt as needed
- Vision ability: close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to make cable connections in tight spaces by bending, reaching, twisting.
- Ability to use the following hand tools: electric drills, hammers, wrenches, and screwdrivers.
- Ability to perform job from high places (i.e. poles and roofs)
- Ability to walk over all types of terrain in all kinds of weather while carrying 75+ pounds including tools and equipment, gaffs, ladders, and fully loaded tool belts.
- Ability to work while standing 50 - 70% of the time.
- Employees must be able to use required personal protective equipment to adhere to safety requirements.
- Employees in this position must weigh within the safety weight requirements (250lbs without tools) to safely operate company ladders and bucket trucks which are essential to this position.
