Job Description

The Store Planning Manager will lead the Store Planning Team to maximize the company’s sales, profit and space by efficiently planning all necessary merchandise activity in our stores.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Store Management or Store Operations
  • Valid driver’s License and clean driving record
  • Some combination of education and experience may be considered for this position
  • Travel to trade shows, conferences/meetings and stores will be required and some will require overnight stays

Job Duties

  • Work with Purchasing Team to develop merchandising plans for the full life cycle of our product for existing and new incoming merchandise including inline, special buy and seasonal items.
    • Plan for when and where the merchandise will be displayed, signed and sold in an effort to maximize sales, margin and space.
    • Employ distinct merchandising strategies for margin, adjacencies and add on sales.
    • Share exit strategy for merchandise with operations as necessary.
  • Work with Operations to develop, share and assist merchandising, selling and exiting strategies (as applicable) for all product assortments for both the interior and exterior of our stores.
  • Using information gathered from purchasing, develop with your partners the right merchandising plan for the company.
  • Teach and share merchandising plans with operations consistently and accurately.
  • Build routines for your own team and cross functional teams to measure and track execution of agreed upon merchandising plans.

  • Create and execute best practices to maximize performance.
  • Identify and manage to KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) for the team.
  • Teach and train your team how to perform their duties at a high level.
  • Efficiencies
  • Technology- Identify and implement technology within the Store Planning Team to merchandise our stores to maximize sales, margin, in stock, visual presentation and safety standards. Example, on board a POG software platform such as JDA, Merchlogix, etc.
  • Working with your partners in purchasing, operations and the DC, develop best practices to maximize the best way to order, ship, stock and sell our merchandise.
  • Signage- working with your partners in purchasing, operations and marketing to develop and execute to a best in class signage program for associates and customers.
  • New stores, Relocations and Resets- execute and enhance the existing strategies to maximize efficiencies, sales and profits. As such, you will responsible for:
  • Fixture, equipment and racking procurement
  • Vendor roles and fixtures
  • Aligning with and communicating with all partners timely and accurately.
  • Establishing best practices for each event that are efficient and scalable.
  • Other duties as your supervisor requests

  • Experience with accounting, budgeting, forecasting, marketing, and spreadsheet analysis
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point, as well as knowledge of database software
  • Strong comprehension of retail financial metrics and the end-to-end merchandising process
  • Strong understanding of P&L and the ability to relate it to stores’ performance
  • Strong retail knowledge and the ability to supervise a large group of associates
  • Experience in planning, record keeping, and reporting
  • Strong calculating, problem solving, quantitative analysis, projections, and statistical analysis
  • Strong decision-making skills and ability to make realistic and rational decisions based on logical assumptions and relevant facts
  • Ability to read and interpret planogram schematics
  • Excellent reasoning skills and ability to perceive opportunities and problems to be resolved, and compare and relate information of different types and from varying sources
  • Exhibit a high level of integrity and business ethics to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively express ideas or instructions to others and professionally interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization

Physical Demands

While in the office, frequent physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, dexterity, and light grasping.   Occasional physical demands include lifting up to 25 lbs., bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, squatting, climbing stairs and firmly grasping.  The employee is required to accept incoming calls and must be able to hear and speak.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision adequate for the incumbent to perform the responsibilities and functions of the job efficiently.  The associate must have the manual dexterity to manually operate and use a computer and other basic office equipment.

While in the store, frequent physical demands include lifting up to 25 lbs., walking, standing, bending, reaching, dexterity and light grasping.  Occasional physical demands include lifting up to and over 50 lbs., climbing stairs, squatting, and firmly grasping.  The associate is required to talk and hear.  Must be able to work required shifts including nights and weekends, and maintain attendance standards.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision adequate for the incumbent to perform the responsibilities and functions of the job efficiently.  The associate must have the manual dexterity to manually operate and use a computer/cash register and/or RF.

Work Environment and Working Conditions

While in the office, this position will be performed inside a climate-controlled office facility.  The noise level is low to medium and typical of an office environment.  Potential hazards include electrical hazards.  Atmospheric conditions are typical of an office environment and may include exposure to odors and dust.

While in the store, work will normally be performed inside of the store facility; however, some work may occasionally be performed outside in conditions ranging from cold below 32 degrees to heat above 100 degrees.  The work environment is usually fast paced with regular deadlines and sales expectations.  Extreme noise and vibrations may occasionally be experienced.  Associates may be subjected to hazards such as burns, cuts, electrical, explosive, and mechanical.  Due to the nature of the work, associates may be exposed atmospheric conditions such as dust fumes, odors, and poor ventilation. For the safety of our associates, all associates may be required to wear protective devices from time to time, depending on the job/task being performed.
