Job Overview

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Administer all aspects of library activity
  • Create a positive, collaborative, and creative environment
  • Provide leadership for the community to create, update, assess, and communicate library’s role in fulfilling the University mission
  • Administer the development of library collections, including Archives, in collaboration with the library staff and other faculty
  • Serve as primary contact regarding vendor contracts, copyright, and other administrative level library operations
  • Administer programs, policies, and procedures, and manage the library budget
  • Recruit, lead, supervise, and evaluate staff
  • Lead the library strategic planning process
  • Represent and promote the University and the Library to University constituencies and professional library consortia and communities.
  • Participate in the professional conversation of librarianship beyond the University
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the University’s Mission

Position Skills and Abilities:

  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office, WorldShare & OCLC, and other related library databases
  • Relate to a culturally diverse university community
  • Supervise and provide leadership for library staff (5 professionals and 5 paraprofessionals)
  • Write statistical reports and correspondence to various bodies including accrediting institutions
  • Participate in the life of the University community through committee work, other academic and social opportunities, and by being a respectful, cordial colleague

 

Qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited library degree (MLIS or equivalent)
  • Three to four years academic library experience
  • Demonstrated effective leadership and supervisory experience in an academic library
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in librarianship, educational pedagogy, library technology, and higher education
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Preferred: Demonstrated teaching excellence
