The Director of Career Services should be committed to student success. They will play a key role in the University’s efforts at attracting and retaining students by working with the faculty and the academic support staff to help students identify and achieve educational and career goals. This is an opportunity for the right individual to make a special, lasting contribution to the University. Clarke University’s Director of Career Services will:

  • Establish and maintain professional partnerships with regional businesses, social service organizations, and related enterprises that will provide career exploration and preparation for Clarke University students through informational interviews, job shadows, internships, and pre-professional opportunities.
  • Convene Career Advisory Panel to gain insights directly from employers that help shape the education and career preparedness of our students.
  • Collaborate with the faculty and the academic support staff in helping students identify and achieve their career and educational goals by providing job shadows, internships (credit and non-credit bearing) and employment opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the academic advising unit, where appropriate, in offering career counseling to students at the start of their matriculation to Clarke University.
  • Provide ongoing career counseling for students with undeclared majors and students seeking to change academic majors.
  • Partner with regional Career Services and economic development professionals to plan, promote and conduct Career Fairs.
  • In collaboration with Alumni Services, maintain contacts with alumni for the purposes of professional networking for students and alumni.
  • Oversee graduate assistants / additional staff as appropriate.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • A commitment to assisting students as they work toward specific educational and career goals.
  • A proactive approach to developing a broad range of community-based organizational resources.
  • Experience in an educational or social service setting, or a related area such as counseling. Specific experience in workforce development or oversight is a plus.
  • Certification to administer / willingness to become certified in personality inventories such MBTI, DISC, Gallop Strengths Finder, etc. is desired.
  • A graduate degree (preferred) and/or experience in higher education.
  • Excellent verbal (written and oral) communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, organize, and maintain pertinent documentation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from different sectors of the organization, including the faculty, the academic student support staff, and Enrollment Management.

This is a 12-month position, beginning on or about July 1, 2023.
