Job Overview
Summary Directs and coordinates all areas of production and related services to achieve timely production of quality products at the most economical costs, and in proper activities of production department(s) in processing materials or manufacturing products in industrial organization by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implements the production plan as approved by the Plant Manager. Supervises and directs Production Supervisors.
- Directs and expedite the prompt identification and handling of equipment malfunctions, material shortages and correction of the other problems obstructing the production process.
- Coordinates with the Maintenance Manager, the activities of the maintenance department with respect to alterations, installation and repair of production equipment, systems, and facilities, minimizing downtime and optimizing production throughout.
- Organize procedures and operations to accomplish the objectives for the overall plant with available labor, skills and capacities and consistent with terms bargaining unit agreement.
- Participate in management meetings to assist in planning and making recommendations to detect areas of excessive expenditures, improve product and other processes and systems.
- Responsible for preparation of weekly production reports and monthly meetings.
- Assist in preparation of the preliminary manufacturing budget for the annual corporate pre-budget.
- Develop, support and maintain an effective relationship with the QA Department, coordinating efforts to consistently produce high quality product.
- Train supervisory and production personnel, and/or insure proper training by other senior production personnel. Provide all necessary information to employees relative to Hazard Communication, Safety Rules, Work and Conduct Rules, Good Manufacturing Practices, etc.
- Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.
- Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure the production and quality of products meets specifications.
- Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
- Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
- Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.
- Resolves worker grievances or submits unsettled grievances to Plant Manager for action.
- Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data.
- Works with 5S coordinator encouraging supervisory personnel to implement and sustain 5S in plant operational areas.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises 4-5 employees in the Production Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or 3-5 manufacturing experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2+ years' experience in a supervisory capacity.
- Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Food industry experience
- Excellent project management skills
- Ability to coach and mentor employees on a one-on-one basis as well as as a group
Physical Demands: Frequently required to sit, talk and hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Vision requirements may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: Occasionally exposed to cold, heat, wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, chemicals, outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
