TITLE: Physical Therapist Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Rehabilitation
POSITION STATUS/HOURS: Full-Time position (40 hours/week) Monday-Friday with on call weekend rotation (approximately every 7th weekend)
Department hours are Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Schedule subject to meet the needs of GRHC. Focus of this position will be the Fennimore and Lancaster Outpatient/Clinic.

JOB SUMMARY:
The licensed Physical Therapist Assistant must meet all standards and requirements in accordance with the State of Wisconsin Department of Regulations and Licensing. They will administer physical therapy services providing highly skilled evaluations and patient care along with supervision of non-professional personnel accordance with hospital policies and procedures.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Application of physical therapy procedures to patients through:
o Use of therapeutic exercise, mechanical traction, therapeutic massage, compression, heat, cold, water, and electricity.
o Measurement and adjustment of crutches, canes, walkers and wheelchairs, and instruction in their use and care.
o Instruction, motivation and assistance to patients and others in: improving pulmonary function, learning and improving functional activities such as pre-ambulation, transfer, ambulation, daily living activities; the use and care of orthoses, prostheses, and supportive devices.
o Performance, without interpretation, of selected measurement procedures such as range of joint motion, gross strength of muscle groups, length and girth of body parts and vital signs.
o Modification of treatment procedures as indicated by patient response and within the limits specified in the plan of care and reporting orally or in writing to the physical therapist.
o Communication with members of physical therapy staff and other health team members individually and in conference to provide patient information.
• Participation in routine administrative procedures required for a physical therapy service including inpatient, outpatient, home health, and peds school district.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Current licensed Physical Therapist Assistant in the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
• Graduate of a program in Physical Therapist Assistant approved by the Council on Medical Education or the American Medical Association.
• Able to frequently transfer, lift, turn, or assist patient to or from bed, w/c, toilet or tubs. This requires the ability to push, pull, and lift 25 to 50 pounds unassisted.
• Push/pull patients weighing 78 to 250 pounds in w/c or gerichairs. Reposition patients weighing 78 to 250 pounds in chairs and bed to perform therapy treatments, and patient comfort needs.
