Annual Salary Range:                    $55,000 to $65,000

Description: 

Habitat for Humanity Dubuque and Jackson Counties seeks our next Executive Director to lead our affiliate in a manner consistent with our Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategic Goals. The new Executive Director will come aboard at an exciting time for the organization as we seek to build on the momentum we have in providing affordable, equitable housing opportunities to a greater number of residents in Dubuque and Jackson counties.

The Executive Director provides overall executive leadership for the affiliate, working closely with our active and expanding Board of Directors to ensure that the organization best achieves our goals and objectives. The position requires a dynamic and resourceful leader who inspires engagement in diverse communities, who works to create an organization of trust for staff, homeowners, and community partners, and who continuously seeks to learn about how to better overcome affordable, equitable housing deficits in our communities.

Key Responsibilities:

Administration, Planning, and Management

  • Responsible for public accountability of the affiliate and ReStore
  • Oversight of affiliate financials and expenditures within Board approved guidelines, including development of annual budgets in congruence with strategic goals
  • Working with the Board in development of long-term strategies and having primary responsibility in working toward achieving those goals
  • Working with Treasurer in providing an accurate financial picture to be shared as a report at Board meetings
  • Provide oversight to Habitat ReStore by coordinating with ReStore Manager to see the policies, procedures, goals and mission of the ReStore are effectively carried out
  • Management and Oversight of Direct reports, including the ReStore Manager. Create an inclusive working environment of support and teamwork
  • Maintaining positive working relationships with current and prospective homeowners
  • Ensure the affiliate adheres to government and Habitat for Humanity International policies
  • Resource Development Coordinate with Fundraising and Development Committee to execute a successful, ongoing Development Plan to sustain the affiliate and meet the resources required to achieve the affiliate’s goals
  • Oversee the creation and implementation of an Annual Fund Development plan
  • Identify, solicit, and steward grant sources
  • Provide leadership for identifying and soliciting major gifts, including identifying and meeting with major potential corporate and individual donors
  • Cultivate in-kind donations for building materials and land
  • Develop and maintain donor relationships with individuals, foundations, professional groups, large and small businesses and faith organizations in our service area
  • Serve as liaison to secure and assist with annual audit
  • Supervise and direct key staff and volunteers in the performance of their duties, evaluate performance of direct reports, and provide overall direction for the personnel function of the organization, including active participation in or approval of personnel decisions to recruit, hire, onboard, evaluate, and end employment.

 

 

Board/Committee Development

  • Assist Board Development Committee in identifying, recruiting, and training new Board members who are representative of our service area and who possess the backgrounds and passion for the Mission that will maximize the success of the affiliate
  • Keep the Board fully informed of the condition and direction of the affiliate and factors that influence our success and the success of our homeowner partners
  • Work with Board Development Committee to provide organizational development opportunities for Board members to learn and grow in service to the mission and vision of Habitat for Humanity
  • Recommending appropriate Board action and implementing Board policies to maintain the affiliate’s standing within the larger organization and the community
  • Support committee work, including helping to identify and recruit new committee members and helping the committees to function well
  • Writing and presenting regular Director’s reports at Board meetings
  • With board chair, sets agenda for Executive Board and board meetings
  • Collaborate with the board to develop clear operations procedures delineating board and staff responsibilities to promote the sustainable growth of the organization.

Public Relations

  • Serving as liaison with Habitat for Humanity International and Habitat for Humanity-Iowa
  • Seeking out and maintaining positive relations with individuals in city/county agencies and appropriate foundations
  • Representing Habitat for Humanity Dubuque and Jackson counties to interested stakeholders
  • Insuring positive communications and relations with stakeholders and staff
  • Expanding the visibility and number of community partners of the affiliate
  • Developing relationships with local media outlets with the goal of reaching more potential homeowners, donors, volunteers, and other community partners

 

Requirements:

5 years of experience in a nonprofit or public service focused organization, including involvement in fundraising efforts

Demonstrated success as a leader, manager, and team builder

Competent computer skills, including spreadsheets, presentations, database management, etc.

A willingness to embrace the mission of Habitat for Humanity and a dedication to inclusively and equitably serving our communities

Ability to understand and effectively communicate

Must be a self-starter who is highly organized and have the highest standards of personal and professional integrity

Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree in a field such as business, public relations, nonprofit administration, or related area.

Demonstrated success in writing, receiving, and administering grants

Demonstrated success in engaging and maintaining donors

Knowledge of housing rules and regulations

Willingness to engage in professional development opportunities to expand capacity for success and become better able to meet the challenges of the position.

Hours and compensation: This is a 40-hour per week salaried position; Scheduling is flexible due to the need for some evening and weekend work.

ABOUT

The Habitat for Humanity ReStore is a discount home improvement store with new and gently used items including appliances, building materials, flooring, rugs, hardware, and more. All purchases help support Dubuque and Jackson Counties Habitat for Humanity’s work to provide affordable housing.

  • Are you looking for an organization where you can use your customer service skills to serve the community you live in and to help others?
  • Are you familiar with basic home repair, tools, carpentry, plumbing, flooring, basic home remodeling, etc.?

If yes, we have the perfect position for you at our ReStore!

As a ReStore Associate, you may help process donations, load and unload donations and store inventory, and assist customers as needed. Tasks include cleaning, pricing, stocking, rearranging items, cashiering and providing friendly customer service at all times.

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with customers by providing high-quality customer service
  • Answer customer questions regarding the ReStore in general, specific items and projects
  • Ensure that all areas of the store/warehouse are safe, clean, organized, and safe
  • Guard against theft
  • Operate cash register to ring up customers
  • Assist with the receiving of inventory
  • Assist customers with purchases – lifting, carrying and loading items up to 80 lbs.
  • Move materials from warehouse to store floor
  • Evaluate condition/acceptability of incoming donations
  • Price materials to be sold
  • Display merchandise in a way that maximizes sales
  • Guide and assist volunteers as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Great track record of providing excellent customer service
  • Basic knowledge of tools and home repair/remodel required
  • Ability to pass criminal background check
  • Able to lift up to 80 lbs.
  • Safe practices in all work activities to avoid injuries and accidents
  • Willingness to work with volunteers
  • Desire to work with diverse staff and customer base
