Position Summary

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Engagement and Intercollegiate Athletics, the Director of Housing Operations is responsible for overseeing Residential Life operations. This position will assist in meeting the formational goals (developing the whole person) of residential living at the University. Additionally, this position will assist in the personal and professional development of Residence Life undergraduate and graduate staff. Finally, this position is grounded in living and modeling the Mission of the University of Dubuque, and contributing to the success of UD students that are consistent with the Student Success Commitment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Ø Oversees all logistical aspects of Residential Life including, but not limited to,

room assignments, maintenance issues, room changes, etc. working closely with

the Office of Student Life Administrative Assistant.

Ø Oversees the community, programming, and initiatives of one on-campus living

area. This includes a living on-campus requirement and assisting with On-Call Duty Rotation.

Ø Schedule regular meetings and provide reports with Facilities, Student Activities,

Security and other groups as assigned.

Ø Potential supervision of a graduate assistant.

Ø Maintains a safe, secure, healthy, and positive living environment that enhances

student development and learning.

Ø Assists in conducting investigations and sanctions.

Ø Assists with coordinating Residence Life with the following events/initiatives:

New Student Orientation, Homecoming, Housing Selection, RA Selection, precampus communication with incoming students.

Ø Provides fiscal management for Residence Life budget.

Ø Ensures compliance with relevant policies, procedures, professional standards,

laws and national trends as applicable.

Ø Assists the Office of Student Life in evaluating

and assessing housing occupancy, retention, and projection trends.

Ø Participates and contributes in broader Student Life programs, events, and

initiatives.

Position Skills and Abilities:

Ø Effective management, supervisory, and leaderships skills.

Ø Strong social emotional skills and a student-centered approach to teaching and learning.

Ø Clear capacity for effective conflict resolution and mediation.

Ø Cultural competency and diversity-oriented approach.

Ø Strong technological skill set.

Qualifications

Ø Master degree preferred; preferably in Student Affairs or comparable field of

student.

Ø At least two years of progressive experience in Residence Life and/or Student

Affairs.

Ø Experience in, and a strong understanding of, Residence Life practices in a small

school setting.

Ø Comfortable presenting to groups.

Ø Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty,

staff, students, and external constituents.

Ø Knowledge of mental health conditions and ability to engage in emergency

situations.

Ø Strong communication skills and ability to motivate students.

Ø Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes a rotation of evening, weekend,

and “on call” assignments.

Ø Must understand and model the Mission of the University and the Student Success

Commitment.

Ø Performs other related duties as required.
