Job Overview
The Apparel Product Design Internship will begin in May and end in August or December (depending on your availability) of 2024.
At Colony Brands, our Product Designers work collaboratively with our Merchandisers, Catalog Managers and Vendors to build our product from the “front-end”. Your work will center on assisting in the development of Apparel and Accessories for selected company brands and catalogs. Your work will involve assisting designers in every aspect of product development, from creating visuals to presenting concepts to brand leaders, developing technical specifications and evaluating functionality of products in both physical and digital form.
You’ll also be responsible for:
• Developing strong working knowledge of the development process from idea conceptualization, through merchandising and sampling to catalog placement
• Working with design staff to determine product form, function, and manufacturing processes consistent with strategic design direction
• Participating in trend research and development on industry trend direction as it relates to the target customer
• In addition to day-to day responsibilities, the intern will participate in an internship project dedicated to a critical business initiative as well as be exposed to all areas of our business and our brands
We need an exceptionally creative individual with professional level communication skills, who thrives in a fast paced, team environment. Ideally you will be working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Apparel Design or a related field. In addition, we are seeking:
• At least Junior standing, recent graduates may be considered
• Cumulative GPA of 2.80 or higher
• Strong CAD sketching capabilities
• Knowledgeable in Print and Pattern Design
• Knowledge of different fabric constructions, uses, and terminology
• Proficient in Adobe Illustrator
• Above average communication and interpersonal skills
• The ability to think and develop “out of the box” ideas
• Examples of work or a link to an online portfolio which demonstrates your sketching and CAD capabilities
We value onsite collaboration so this role requires onsite work in our Monroe office Tuesday - Thursday. There is generally flexibility to work remotely for up to 2 days per week. To take advantage of the remote work option, you must have reliable, high-speed internet and appropriate home office ergonomics.
