Operations Safety Technician

Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Operations Safety Technician is responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for employees and contractors at East Dubuque Nitrogen Fertilizer. This position involves working closely with employees, supervisors, and management to identify, evaluate, and eliminate safety hazards. This position supports operations by evaluating work hazards, authorizing work permits, providing safety training, and conducting safety inspections.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• College degree in Safety or related discipline preferred
• Professional Safety Certification is preferred

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• 6+ years of safety experience or equivalent plant safety experience
• Knowledge of safe work permitting, hazard assessments, and job safety analyses
• Working knowledge of OSHA regulatory standards
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Fluent in English, oral and written required.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Participate in the safe work permitting and LOTO processes as needed.
• Able to clearly share expectations and perform training if necessary for safe work execution.
• Perform atmospheric gas checks utilizing 4 gas monitor for Hot Work and/or Confined Space entry.
• Regularly Communicate with department leads, operators and craftsmen concerning work progress, concerns and questions.
• Training support for new and current hires, sharing knowledge gained through experience
• Assist in development and or modification of LOTO plans
• Assist supervisors and/or managers with tasks for the purpose of efficient and safe operations.
• Gather information and participate in investigations of reported incidents.
• Assist employees with questions concerning safety or operational functions.
• Participate with the Safety Working group
• Perform audits concerning items or tasks with focus on safety.
• Conduct spot checks for ways to improve execution of safety related tasks.
• Inspect, maintain, clean and repair safety equipment as needed.
• Issue PPE and safety equipment as needed to facilitate safe work.
• Exposure to work near potentially volatile and combustible materials and chemicals.

EXPECTED RESULTS

• Support the Shift Supervisor and the Safety Department to facilitate safe and efficient operations.
• Ensure compliance with internal and external safety requirements
• Eliminate/Reduce unsafe practices before they happen.
• Reduce wait time for craft workers to begin their assigned tasks.
• Provide a trusted liaison for worker to operational/safety leadership.
• Adherence to all company policies and procedures
