Job Overview
The Director of Development will direct the Community Foundation’s (CFGD) comprehensive philanthropy program, to include both fundraising and fund development. This individual will possess the expertise and relational know-how to balance the Foundation’s aims of attracting and servicing fundholders and building assets while also raising funds for the Forever Fund. This position identifies and builds relationships with current donors, prospective donors, and professional advisors through a variety of strategies including independent research and private and public events.
This position promotes a concierge-level of service for both prospective and current donors and leads efforts to enhance external partnerships with wealth and professional advisors and offers the opportunity for advancement into a supervisory role, where leadership skills can be further developed and applied within our dynamic team environment.
ACTIVITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works to increase donor base and build relationships between the Foundation and donors/prospective donors including major gifts, planned gifts, annual giving, and special events.
- Actively seeks to increase the Foundation’s asset base to support its grantmaking goals.
- Provide best practices and shared experience with Development Department staff regarding:
- Donor visits
- Promotion of philanthropy
- Prospect cultivation and solicitation
- Donor relations and stewardship
- Estate and planned giving; major gifts
- Professional Advisor Partnerships
- Communicate to current and prospective donors and fundholders the Foundation’s unique and powerful proposition as an organization that both supports CFGD and provides donors with valuable tools to facilitate their own philanthropic giving.
- Works with donors to understand and achieve their philanthropic goals. Identifies donor’s giving interests and provides them with information and access to resources that enhance the effectiveness of their charitable giving.
- Assist in developing a planned giving program tied to the Transfer of Wealth study.
- Participate in professional development-related groups like AFP, AdNet and other planned giving associations.
- Represent CFGD at community/regional and statewide events as appropriate.
- Participate in regular staff and other internal meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Relationship building, sales experience, and/or fundraising and development experience including planned giving are needed skills. Willing to train the right candidate.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills including the ability to think critically and explain alternatives clearly.
- A high level of flexibility with the ability to work in a small office environment and to promote a team-oriented atmosphere.
- Organizational values of ethics, honesty, integrity, trust, and teamwork.
- Computer proficiency in all Microsoft Office components and industry specific software.
- Effective and efficient time management skills and techniques for work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work the hours required for this position. Comfortable with occasional travel and working evenings and occasional weekend
