Job Overview

  • Starting pay $29.12/hour plus $1.50 shift differential for night shifts
  • Pay increases to $42.94/hour after successfully completing 180-day probationary period
  • Ability to make $53.97/hour based on learned skills and qualifications
  • Schedule is 36 hours one week and 48 hours the next week (8 hours of overtime built into normal schedule)

POSITION SUMMARY

The primary duties of an operator include operating, maintaining and repairing the plant equipment. Operators perform various duties required to keep their assigned area safe and within production standards. Operators also handle emergency situations, monitor and trouble shoot equipment and work 12 hour rotating shifts including weekends and holidays.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Two-year degree in Process Technology is preferred

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous experience operating refrigeration, pumping & conveyor systems, and operating mobile equipment are desired.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • General computer proficiency including Word and Excel.
  • Fluent in English, oral and written required.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, desire to advance.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

Depending on the level of progression and acquired competency, the following are typical expectations for an operator.  Additional expectations are identified in the Operator Expectations document provided to all operators.

  • Perform duties assigned daily by the supervisor as needed to accomplish company goals.
  • Analyze data and control continuous operation of nitrogen processing units.
  • Operate control to regulate temperature, pressure, rate of flow, and tank level in nitrogen unit, according to process schedules.
  • Read and analyzes specifications, schedules, logs and test results to determine changes to equipment controls required to produce specified product.
  • Observe instruments, gauges, and meters to verify conformance to specified quality and quantity of product.
  • Inspects equipment and performs troubleshooting to determine location and nature of malfunction, such as leaks and breakage.
  • Repair, lubricate and maintain equipment or report malfunctioning equipment to supervisor to schedule needed repairs.
  • Compile and record operating data, instrument reading, documents, and results of laboratory analyses.
  • Operates auxiliary equipment and controls multiple processing units during distilling or treating operations.
  • Monitor and adjust unit controls to ensure safe and efficient operations conditions.
  • Operate control panels to coordinate and regulate process variables and to direct product flow rate, according to prescribed schedules.

EXPECTED RESULTS

  • The successful candidate will be required to qualify in two areas during the 180 day probationary period.
  • Passing both written & practical exams throughout the process is expected to continue employment and successfully complete the probationary period.
  • Must attend, complete, and pass all in-house training and testing.
  • Adherence to all company policies, procedures and work rules.
  • Obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker’s Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
  • Ability to adjust to frequent change and adjust schedule as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Able to wear all required personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, latex/rubber/leather gloves, safety boots, harness, FR clothing and respirator).
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures and adverse weather conditions.
  • Required to climb and balance with confidence. Must be able to climb stairways and ladder ways up towers. Be able to safely work from elevated platforms, boom lifts, at elevations over 200 feet.
  • Ability to work inside confined spaces and comply with all safety and PPE requirements.
  • Lift, carry and/or push up to 45 pounds.
  • Occasionally exert an equivalent of 100 pounds of force using a mechanical device (example pulling on a wench, using a drum dolly).
  • Required to walk, sit, stand, talk, and hear; and to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and bend, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities include vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Able to drive motorized vehicles within the plant; example fork truck, boom-lift, and scissors lift.
