Job Overview
The University of Dubuque is a growing faith based University that is seeking a TRIO-Student Support Services Advisor. This federally-funded program at UD serves 140 students who are first-generation, low income, and/or students with a disability by providing holistic support to participants. This is a grant funded full-time, 11-month position funded through August of 2025 with the opportunity for continued employment pending the grant being re-awarded for another five years.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Maintain a case load of 35-55 TRIO participants each academic year by providing academic, career, financial, and personal advising and support
- Facilitate support, goal-setting, and personal growth opportunities for SSS program participants.
- Compile detailed records (will involve the creation and maintenance of confidential, separate file folders for each SSS participant that will include SSS-eligibility data).
- Coordinate, develop and facilitate SSS programming—including educational workshops, guest speakers/lecturers, cultural enrichment opportunities, and community building offerings.
- Perform extensive data entry regarding SSS participants, and maintain detail-oriented records and reports for the SSS Project Director which are critical for SSS grant reporting.
- Foster student participation in SSS workshops, events, and College 101 academic skill development lessons.
- Prioritize effective interpersonal relations and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and other departments across campus on behalf of SSS participants.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the University's Mission
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree is required; Master's degree preferred
- Higher Ed., Developmental Ed., Communication, Psychology, Social Work or a related field is preferred
- Minimum of one-year of experience in higher education working with populations similar to those that TRIO serves
- Minimum of one-year of advising or advising related work
- Experience advocating for underserved populations within areas such as policy, programming, and campus culture
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations including students, faculty, staff, administration and outside agencies
- Demonstrate good organizational skills, strong self-motivation, and accountability
- Exhibit strong verbal and written communication in one-on-one situations, small and large group settings.
- Learn and maintain basic knowledge of TRIO legislation and regulations and attend professional development trainings as assigned
- Demonstrate necessary computer skills (data entry, spreadsheet, word-processing, internet, and social media)
