Job Overview

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate activities during fall and spring Spartan Start (new student orientation) programs for new and transfer students, and parents/stakeholders.
  • Manage an annual budget.
  • Select, train, and supervise peer mentors and orientation leaders for Spartan Start programs; with continued peer mentor programming during the fall semester.
  • Collaborate and facilitate peer mentor, orientation leader, and resident assistant training. Lead, supervise, and manage a summer intern, as well as a graduate assistant.
  • Develop and coordinate online Spartan Start programming for new and transfer students.
  • Coordinate the inclusion of student development programming in Worldview I and II courses (foundational freshman courses).
  • Coordinate Early Check-in programing for fall student athletes and parents/stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage resources/programming for parents/stakeholders of first year students.
  • Collaborate with the campus community to facilitate large-scale programming efforts, including Spartan Start, Homecoming, Campus Involvement Fairs, etc.
  • Serve as primary advisor for Student Government Association (SGA) - assist with financial operations, governing documents, and the development and facilitation of campus events and improvements
  • Serve as primary advisor for Student Activities Board (SAB) - assist with financial operations, governing documents, and the development and facilitation of campus events and programming
  • Facilitate financial operations for active student organizations
  • Provide administrative support for student organizations - to include annual registration, new organization development, maintaining and updating resources, facilitating communication streams, and assisting in programming development and implementation
  • Coordinate DAYLC programming
  • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) for Office of International Student Services and Study Abroad
  • Provide supervision of student workers, graduate assistants, and interns as needed
  • Serve as primary campus liaison for CampusGroups software - to include campus training and department integration, campus partner collaboration, and troubleshooting of issues with IT and software vendor
  • Manage and utilize technology resources related to areas of responsibility (Student Success and Education software, FYE website, social media, and Learning Management System).
  • Serve on campus committees (Retention and Persistence Committee, UD Cares, Enrollment and Registration Committee, etc.).
  • Serve as a creative and innovative member within the Center for Student Engagement, and the Office of Student Life.
  • Supervise some evening, weekend, and late night programming.
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations, including necessary training and drills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the University's Mission

Position Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, supervise, and manage others.
  • Strong active listening and communication skills (verbal, written, and interpersonal).
  • Experience or exposure to administrative skills and functions (budgeting, program evaluation/assessment, and program development).
  • Ability to serve as an effective team member and collaborate with campus and community constituents.
  • Identified projects that required prioritization of tasks and/or the ability to multi-task.
  • Strong technology skills and experiences (Microsoft Office, Student Information System, Learning Management System, Student Success software, Website Management software, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Master degree required (strongly preferred in College Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education, or related field).
  • Three (3) years of professional work experience related to student development or success programming; or similar work experience and undergraduate/graduate experience in Student Affairs.
