Job Overview

The University of Dubuque is a growing faith based University that is seeking a First-Year Academic Advisor/Academic Success Coach to assist first-year students in selecting courses, exploring majors/careers, evaluating academic abilities, and understanding degree requirements; and to mentor, advise, and monitor students on academic probation. This is a full-time, 11-month position.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Director of Advising to educate and empower UD first-year students regarding their individual degree and program requirements. This may be done through individual meetings and/or workshops
  • Assist with the scheduling and registration of first-year students
  • Track the academic progress of assigned first-year advisees
  • Conduct intakes on all students placed on academic probation (AP) and monitor their academic progress throughout the semester
  • Provide one-on-one academic counseling regarding topics such as time management, study skills (test-taking, note-taking, listening, etc.)
  • Help create and verify academic standing lists at the end of each semester: academic suspensions, academic probation, academic alert, and return to good standing
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the University’s Mission

Skills and Abilities:

  • Good organizational skills, flexibility to handle unexpected situations, attention to detail, and ability to produce accurate reports
  • Excellent listening and communication skills including the ability to work comfortably with diverse populations
  • Ability to handle confidentiality issues with integrity

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • At least one year of higher education experience preferred
