Job Overview

The University of Dubuque is a growing faith based University that is seeking an Assistant Director/Advisor TRIO Student Support Services. This federally-funded program at UD serves 140 students who are first-generation, low income, and/or students with a disability by providing holistic support to participants.  This is a grant funded full-time, 11-month position funded through August of 2025 with the opportunity for continued employment pending the grant being re-awarded for another five years.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a case load of 50-70 TRIO participants each academic year by providing academic, career, financial, and personal advising and support
  • Concentrate on the assessment functions of project services and participants in order to coordinate support as needed to increase participant engagement, persistence, and degree completion
  • Coordinate the process of recruitment, identification, and placement of eligible participants.
  • Compile detailed records (will involve the creation and maintenance of confidential, separate file folders for each SSS participant that will include SSS-eligibility data)
  • Support and attend SSS programming—including educational workshops, guest speakers/lecturers, cultural enrichment opportunities, and community building offerings
  • Perform extensive data entry regarding SSS participants, and maintain detail-oriented records and reports for the SSS Program Director which are critical for SSS grant reporting
  • Encourage student participation in SSS workshops, events, and College 101 academic skill development lessons
  • Prioritize effective interpersonal relations and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and other departments across campus on behalf of SSS participants
  • Responsible for administrative decisions regarding the SSS Program in the absence of the SSS Program Director
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the University’s Mission

Requirements:

  • Master's degree required, preferably in Student Affairs, Higher Ed., Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or a related field is preferred
  • Minimum of two years of experience serving in an advising capacity in higher education
  • Knowledge and experience supporting the academic, economic, social, and cultural needs of disadvantaged students
  • Experience in providing case management services and advising students on college course selection, financial aid application process, and graduate school exploration and funding
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations including students, faculty, staff, administration and outside agencies
  • Good organizational skills, strong self-motivation, and accountability
  • Strong verbal and written communication in one-on-one situations, small and large group settings
  • Learn and maintain knowledge of TRIO legislation and regulations and attend professional development trainings as assigned
  • Computer skills proficiency (data entry, spreadsheet, word-processing, internet, and social media)
