Job Overview

The Dubuque County Fair Association is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced manager to lead the planning and execution of our annual Dubuque County Fair, as well as oversee all events and operations throughout the year. This dynamic position is ideal for someone who is passionate about community engagement, event management, fund development, as well as fostering strong relationships within the community.

Key Responsibilities

Staff Supervision: Lead and mentor a team of event staff and volunteers by delegating responsibilities, providing guidance and support to ensure successful operations.

Community Relations: Serve as a primary liaison between the Dubuque County Fair Association and the community. Build and maintain positive relationships with local businesses, community leaders, including the Dubuque County Supervisors, etc., and the general public to enhance the visibility and reputation of the Dubuque County Fair Association and associated events.

Fund Development: Develop and implement strategies to support the financial goals of the Dubuque County Fair Association. Identify and cultivate relationships with sponsors, donors, and community partners to secure funding and sponsorships.

Board collaboration: Work closely with the Dubuque County Fair Association Board of Directors, Associates, Junior Board, committees, and volunteers to align event planning with the organization’s goals and objectives. Provide regular updates and recommendations to the Board regarding event planning, community outreach, and fundraising initiatives. Work closely with the Association President and the Executive Board. Report directly to the Association President.

Event Planning & Execution: Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of the annual Dubuque County Fair, ensuring a successful and memorable experience for all attendees. Manage logistics for events, including weddings, fundraisers, auctions, corporate events, races, and more. Seek out other events to utilize the facilities.

Budget Management: Develop and manage the budget for the Dubuque County Fair Association, ensuring that all operations are cost effective and within financial guidelines.

Qualifications

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, particularly during the fair and other major events.

Experience in fundraising and community relations.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to efficiently and effectively work with board members, staff, volunteers, public officials, and the community.

Strong organizational skills and leadership, including attention to detail, with the ability to multitask and strong follow-through.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.), efficient computer skills, typing skills, as well budget management and financial oversight. Knowledge of QuickBooks would be helpful.

Proven experience in event planning and management, preferably in a fair, festival, or large-scale event setting would be helpful.

Can identify their own strengths and weaknesses and delegate accordingly.

The Dubuque County Fair Association (DCFA) is a non-profit organization established in 1953, to plan and operate the Annual Dubuque County Fair. The Association has grown immensely in 66 years and the DCFA now offers visitors 96 acres of acutely manicured property, 3 rental facilities with a combined square footage of over 32,000 square feet of indoor space, adequate parking for thousands of cars, a 3/8 mile dirt race track, an outdoor Festival Area, experienced event planners and full service food and beverage amenities.
