Job Overview

This program is a combination of the Building Construction and the Construction Equipment Operator certificate programs. Training begins with a comprehensive core track that teaches job readiness and teamwork skills, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) construction safety principles, Silica Safety and American Heart Association CPR/First Aid. Then in a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on lab experience, students will be introduced to basic construction concepts and technical skills including rough framing, concrete, insulation, building codes and permits, and finish carpentry. Once the core track is complete, students will have the opportunity to earn money while they learn during the Building Construction lab portion of the program that takes place at a job-site, approximately 46 hours. During the Construction Equipment Operator lab students will be prepared to safely, efficiently and professionally operate heavy equipment used in a variety of construction sites including residential and commercial building, road construction, maintenance and utility installation and repair. Students will be introduced to equipment applications, sustainability practices, powertrain, hydraulic and electrical system inspections, flagger skills and operation of a forklift, skid steer and mini-excavator. This program is designed to prepare workers for high-demand construction jobs or to pursue additional education or training in construction trades.
