The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist.

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist’s primary role is to safeguard the environmental health and safety of the employees, students, faculty, staff and visitors of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. This position is expected to interact with a broad range of disciplines and provide technical guidance to all levels of administration and employees daily. The scope of this position includes emergency planning, hazardous waste program coordination, construction and renovation project safety review, workers compensation program, environmental regulation compliance, occupational safety programs development, implementation and control of programs.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement programs to address safety concerns
  • Provide consultation, direction and resources recommendation to ensure all areas of work, recreation and research are performed safely and within federal, state and local regulations.
  • Recommend controls of identified hazards and assess hazards using relevant regulatory methodologies
  • Ensure proper safety equipment is used, and safety clothing are worn by employees in specified roles while maintaining records of requirements.
  • Provide expert knowledge and guidance to internal and external stakeholders including leadership in a specialized area of safety such biosafety, chemical, hazardous materials, agriculture, lake, radiation, and Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA)
  • Manage the logistics of a safety program and responsible for its implementation and operational success
  • Review industry updates and direct the development of safety communications and associated staff
  • Accurately document violations and regulation changes and effectively communicate necessary findings to the appropriate authorities
  • Lead the day-to-day activities of a health and safety work unit

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience with chemical safety, hazardous waste disposal, and OSHA standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with faculty, staff, students, community members and guests to the UW-Platteville campus.
  • Strong knowledge of and ability to interpret federal, state, and local safety laws
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • Strong attention to detail

  • Experience preparing metrics and reports

Education:

We are seeking a compassionate clinical professional to join our team. This position is open to Certified Medical Assistants (CMA), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), or Registered Nurses (RN).
