Responsibilities

Program Management / Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintains compliance with applicable OSHA, DIA, CMS programs
  • Coordinates projects and programs to improve the health and safety of team members such as Respiratory Protection, Bloodborne Pathogens, Safe Patient Handling.
  • Gathers statistics and analyzes trends; makes recommendations so that appropriate decisions can be made in collaboration with human resources and department managers
  • Keeps and maintains all records in accordance with OSHA regulations, state workers’ compensation code and Americans with Disability Act (ADA).
  • Responsible for the appropriate exchange of information between Team Member Health & Safety, leaders and team members.

Clinical Excellence/Patient Care

  • Maintains compliance with administration and documentation of applicable healthcare worker required screenings, immunizations, in accordance with UPH policy and governing agencies.
  • Conducts pre-employment evaluations and various screenings per provider protocol
  • Conducts respiratory protection evaluations per provider protocol
  • Completes assessments on impairment of team members
  • Assesses the needs of team members and volunteers, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care.
  • Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient’s care.
  • Delivers high quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required in Team Member Health & Safety in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.

Injury/Illness Management

  • Treats team member and volunteer on-the-job injuries, illnesses and makes appropriate referrals.
  • Manages testing, treatment and follow up, for all team member exposures to communicable disease in accordance with applicable regulatory agency for internal and contracted external customers.
  • Manages testing, treatment and follow up, for all team member bloodborne pathogen exposures in accordance with OSHA regulations for internal and contracted external customers.
  • Manages testing, initial treatment and ensures proper hand off for contracted staff bloodborne pathogen exposures occurring at a UnityPoint Health facility in accordance with OSHA regulations.
  • Follows up on work related injuries/incidents to ensure practices are in place to prevent
    reoccurrence from happening.
  • Provides guidance to team members regarding safe return to work timing for personal communicable diseases

Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate of accredited nursing program

Experience:

  • 5 years as a Registered Nurse OR 2 years as a Registered Nurse and 3+ years of project management, leadership or similar

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the applicable state required
  • Current BLS Certification

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
  • Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email, web browser
  • Ability to make knowledgeable clinical assessments and judgments

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Provides disability case management and complex claim determinations based on medical documentation and the applicable disability plan interpretation including determining benefits due and making timely payments/approvals and adjustments, medically managing disability claims including comorbidities, concurrent plans, and complex ADA accommodations; coordinates investigative efforts, thoroughly reviews contested claims, negotiates return to work with or without job accommodations, and evaluates and arranges appropriate referral of claims to outside vendors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Makes independent claim determinations, based on the information received, to approve complex disability claims or makes a recommendation to team lead to deny claims based on the disability plan.
  • Reviews and analyzes complex medical information (i.e. attending physician statements, office notes, operative reports, etc.) to determine if the claimant is disabled as defined by the disability plan.
  • Oversees additional facets of complex claims including but not limited to comorbidities, concurrent plans, complex ADA accommodations, and claims outside of typical guidelines.
  • Utilizes the appropriate clinical resources in case assessment (i.e. duration guidelines, in-house clinicians), as needed.
  • Determines benefits due pursuant to a disability plan, makes timely claims payments/approvals and adjustments for workers compensation, Social Security Disability Income (SSDI), and other disability offsets.
  • Informs claimants of documentation required to process claims, required time frames, payment information and claims status by phone, written correspondence and/or claims system.
  • Communicates with the claimants’ providers to set expectations regarding return to work.
  • Medically manages complex disability claims ensuring compliance with duration control guidelines and plan provisions.
  • Communicates clearly and timely with claimant and client on all aspects of claims process by phone, written correspondence and/or claims system.
  • Coordinates investigative efforts ensuring appropriateness; provides thorough review of contested claims.
  • Evaluates and arranges appropriate referral of claims to outside vendors or physician advisor reviews, surveillance, independent medical evaluation, functional capability evaluation, and/or related disability activities.
  • Negotiates return to work with or without job accommodations via the claimant’s physician and employer.
  • Refers cases to team lead and clinical case management for additional review when appropriate.
  • Maintains professional client relationships and provides excellent customer service.
  • Meets the organization’s quality program(s) minimum requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Licensing
High School diploma or GED required.  Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college preferred. State certification or licensing in statutory leaves is preferred or may be required based on state regulations.

Experience
Three (3) years of benefits or disability case/claims management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Education:

  • Must possess an Associate/Diploma Degree in Nursing, or Health Information Technology (HIT) or an Advanced degree in nursing (NP/APN) or Physician Assistant.  In the absence of a college degree, must have 3 or more years’ experience as an inpatient coder or clinical documentation specialist.   
  • Preferred certification or licensure includes: 
    • Current Registered Nurse License,

  • Ensures soiled linens are laundered, which may include loading hotel washers and dryers and folding sheets and towels in laundry room as needed.
  • Notifies maintenance department of needed maintenance or repairs.
  • Takes found items to designated lost and found area if guest has checked out.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Medical Associates Dermatology Department is hiring a full-time Certified Medical Assistant, LPN, or RN to join their team. In this role, you will be rooming patients and assisting in procedures that range from acne treatments to mole removal. 

Schedule: Primary schedule is 4 days per week between the hours of 7:00am – 5:00pm- Flexibility is a must!

Experience – From three months to one year of similar or related experience. 

Education – Equivalent to a two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study or certification at a business or trade school. Certification of Medical Assistant or valid LPN/RN licensure required.

Interpersonal Skills – A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary.

Other Skills – Keyboarding skills and use of electronic equipment. Use and operate a wide variety of diagnostic and medical equipment. Use personal protection safety equipment including gloves, lab coats, gowns, goggles, and face masks/shields. BLS required biannually
