Position Summary

GENERAL SUMMARY: Under general supervision of a Civil Engineer III (Water Resources), the Field Engineering Technician I/II assists in the planning, designing, and overseeing of construction and maintenance of municipal structures and facilities. This role involves a mix of field inspection responsibilities (~60%) as well as some design and office duties (~40%). The technician serves as a construction observer, engineering project representative, and materials testing technician. Additionally, the technician performs engineering design functions, operates computer/GIS systems, and supports technicians and engineers on various projects, and performs related work as required.

Supervisory engineers provide general supervision and review the work through observation, conferences and results achieved.

Job Duties

•Field Inspection Duties (~60%):
•Conduct on-site inspections of complex construction projects to ensure compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
•Monitor contractor performance and adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
•Document and report field observations, discrepancies, and necessary corrective actions.
•Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and city officials to resolve construction issues and ensure project milestones are achieved.

Job Duties – Field Engineering Technician I:
•Serve as the primary inspector and materials testing technician for the execution of public infrastructure projects.

•Review engineering designs and construction documents for public infrastructure projects.
•Aids with the planning, design and preparation of project drawings, specifications and estimates for assigned projects,
•Aids with preliminary engineering evaluations, including but not limited to site investigations, quantity take-offs and opinions of probable construction cost,
•Produces and reviews reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photographs on composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design public infrastructure projects,
•Conduct regular site inspections to ensure work meets engineering specifications and quality standards.
•Prepare inspection reports, progress updates, and other documentation as required.
•Maintain accurate project records

•High School diploma or equivalency with supplemental coursework in CAD, Infrastructure Construction, or Construction Inspection; Six (6) years of experience working on public infrastructure related construction projects;
•IDOT Materials Testing Certifications: Aggregate Technician, HMA Sampling, and PCC-1
•Work Zone Safety and Confined Space Awareness within 6 months of employment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Field Engineering Tech 2 – Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s (2-year) degree or major coursework in CAD, Infrastructure Construction, Civil Engineering, Construction Inspection or a related field
Field Engineering Tech 1 – 6 months of experience in construction inspection or materials testing related to public infrastructure related construction projects such as roadways and utilities
•Confined space entry certification within 6 months of employment
•1 year of experience in sanitary or stormwater sewer system inspection and/or maintenance activities.
•Knowledge of residential or commercial plumbing.

Position Summary

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Economic Development Financial Specialist plays a key role in supporting the City’s economic development initiatives through expert financial management and project oversight, with a focus on Tax Increment Financing (TIF). This position is responsible for projecting and tracking TIF revenue, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, managing rebate payments, and assisting in the development of related budget forecasts. This role requires close collaboration with the Finance Department, City Attorney’s Office, and other internal and external partners to ensure alignment between financial strategy and development goals. Position Summary

 

GENERAL SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the Transportation Services Operations Supervisor, the Transit Dispatcher/Scheduler will schedule and dispatch bus drivers, work crews, equipment, service vehicles or buses for conveyance of passengers or for normal installation, fixed route/minibus/contract services, or emergency repairs within the city limits of Dubuque; and perform other duties as assigned. Duties include using radio, telephone, or computer to transmit assignments, and compiling statistics and reports on work progress.

 

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THIS CLASS: Work in this class involves responsibility for assisting the Transportation Services Operations Supervisor by directing and coordinating the scheduling and dispatching of public transit services. The Shop Technician services and maintains Portable Fire Extinguishers for walk-in customers at our shop location. Responsible for maintaining a professional, productive, and safe work environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist customers in fulfilling service needs.
  • Understand product capabilities, warranties, product usages and challenges, to further educate and serve customers.
  • Responsible for notifying direct supervisor of any equipment break down or malfunction or any unsafe working conditions.
  • Must be able to lift or carry heavy objects.
  • Understand and implement the concepts and principles of NFPA 10.
  • Complete inspection worksheets and any other appropriate paperwork for customer, local AHJ’s and customer’s insurance company.

Service Technician

The Service Technician services and maintains Portable Fire Extinguishers, Emergency / Exit Lights, and Fire Suppression Systems for current and new customers. Selling services to new customers is also expected within the designated territory. Operation of a company vehicle and independent scheduling is required. Responsible for maintaining a professional, productive, and safe work environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist customers in fulfilling service needs.
  • Perform site surveys to educate customers of required related fire protection equipment.
  • Understand product capabilities, warranties, product usages and challenges, to further educate and serve external customers.

  • Responsible for complying and enforcing safety requirements while on company property and at customers’ site.

Kitchen Hood Exhaust Cleaner

Job Responsibilities

  • Inspect and clean kitchen exhaust systems in accordance with National Fire Protection Association Standard 96.
  • Cleaning full kitchen exhaust systems including: hoods, duct work, access panels, filters, and exhaust fans.
  • Setting up all equipment for the cleaning process.

  • Knowledge of basic tools
  • Preferred experience with kitchen exhaust systems, but not a must

  • Preferred high school or equivalent, but not a must.

Required license or certification:

  • Driver’s License (REQUIRED)

Training Provided (usually completed within 30 days, but depending on circumstances- at most 90 days)

Salary:

  • Beginning: $16.00
  • After Training Completion (30 days – 90 days): $17.00
  • Opportunity for raises up to: $19.00

Part-Time, but can receive full-time hours depending on demand of cleaning jobs

Jobs are usually scheduled during these times:

  • Day Shift: usually 4:00AM – 2:00 PM
  • Middle Shift: usually 11:00 AM -7:00 PM
  • Night/Overnight: Usually 6:00 PM – 4:00 AM

Service Technician

Dubuque Fire Equipment is a provider of quality fire protection products and services and is currently seeking a motivated individual to be a part of our team. The Service Technician services and maintains Portable Fire Extinguishers, Emergency / Exit Lights, and Fire Suppression Systems for current and new customers. Selling services to new customers is also expected within the designated territory. Operation of a company vehicle and independent scheduling is required. Responsible for maintaining a professional, productive, and safe work environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist customers in fulfilling service needs.
  • Perform site surveys to educate customers of required related fire protection equipment.
  • Understand product capabilities, warranties, product usages and challenges, to further educate and serve external customers.
  • Responsible for notifying direct supervisor of any equipment break down or malfunction or any unsafe working conditions.
  • Responsible for complying and enforcing safety requirements while on company property and at customers’ site.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and as necessary depending on the situation and location.
  • Must be able to lift or carry heavy objects.
  • Understand and implement the concepts and principles of NFPA 10, 12, 12A, 17, 17A and 96.
  • Complete inspection worksheets and any other appropriate paperwork for customer, local AHJ’s and customer’s insurance company.
  • Driving to locations
  • Typical workday ranges between 4:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Depending on customers’ availability)
    • Plan your own schedule.

Fire Extinguishers:

  • Perform inspections and routine maintenance on extinguishers and emergency lights.
  • Clean extinguishers and recharge them with approved materials
  • Inspect, repair, and test fire extinguishers using hand tools, hydrostatic test equipment
  • Dismantle extinguishers and examine mechanical parts, extinguishing agents, and expelling means; replaces worn or damaged parts
  • Checking each extinguisher in location to ensure it is up to code
  • Verify that proper fire extinguishers and fire extinguisher placement is in place
  • Hydro-test low pressure cylinders
  • Assist in fire safety inspections
  • Perform fire demos- training on the proper use of fire extinguishers
  • Servicing of customers Emergency and Exit lights to including required maintenance or repair
  • Sales

Fire Suppression Systems

  • Perform semi-annual inspections on suppression systems (kitchen, paint booth, etc.)
  • Inspecting and repairing pre-engineered restaurant fire suppression systems
  • Performing on-site emergency troubleshooting of fire suppression systems.
  • Identify any systems NOT compliant with the latest NFPA standards, including UL300.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills: oral and written.
