The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company’s regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule YEAR-ROUND.

Your Responsibilities

As a Part-Time Student-Communications for John Deere Dubuque Works, located in Dubuque, IA, you will use various communication media to share business-related information with appropriate internal audiences, work to ensure that employees are aware of, understand, and know the impact of the information. In addition, you will: 

  • Adapt communications for internal employee and virtual audiences by developing and producing short videos.

  • Create visually engaging graphics for digital signage.

  • Research, write, and edit communication materials for use in various media.

  • Provide communications support to departments, groups, and managers to assist in identifying communication needs and messages, and to develop appropriate communication plans.

  • Engage with tour visitors to gather feedback for internal audiences.

This position is not available to students on immigration visas.

What Skills You Need

  • Ideally you will be pursuing a degree in communications, marketing/advertising, business, graphic design, or video editing; others may apply.
  • Must be registered as a full-time student at a local accredited college/university.
  • Graduation date of December 2025 or later.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above.
  • Available to work during the academic year 16-20 hours/weekly.
  • Available to work during the summer semester 35-40 hours/weekly.
  • Must be able to commute to the work location in Dubuque, Iowa, on a daily basis year-round.
  • Experience with photo and video editing software.

What Makes You Stand Out

    • Experience with digital technology and editing software packages (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite).

    • Proven ability to create, edit, and assemble communications and recorded footage into a finished project that matches vision and is suitable for broadcasting.
    • Knowledge of layout/design for both print publications and online.
    • Understanding of photography and photo editing.
    • Ability to use standard desktop load applications such as Microsoft Office plus intranet and internet functions.
    • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with ability to find stories and turn them into short videos.

    The John Deere Dubuque Works is one of the key facilities in Deere & Company's Construction and Forestry (C&F) Division. The Dubuque Works manufactures backhoe loaders, crawler dozers, and skid steer loaders for the construction industry and knuckleboom loaders and tracked feller bunchers for the forestry industry.  The Dubuque Works also serves as the Center of Excellence for the C&F Division in the areas of Product Engineering, Product Verification and Validation, Supply Management, and Product Support which includes the Dealer Technical Assistance Center.  From a manufacturing perspective, the core competencies of the factory include plate and sheet cutting, machining, welding, paint, and assembly.
